need an antique dealer's opinion here. I would think something 30-99 years old.

With the way cycling technology has moved in the past 10 years, almost anything more than a few years old is considered by someone to be "vintage"

but for me, it is anything pre 90's

bicycles in general are barely over 100 years old, so anything that is older than 1/5th of the entire existence of the bike is vintage to me.

+1. Whatever you think, that's fine. You'll find someone here who agrees with you, and the rest will cheerfully ignore you!

Vintage is defined as "of old, recognized and enduring interest, importance or quality."

In the world of cars and antiques, vehicles and items made prior to 1930 are considered vintage while items defined as being classic are those items that are seen as being perfect examples of their kind, of lasting worth, and having a timeless appeal.

Not again...

This is one of the recurring threads that actually annoys me simply because there is NO answer. Classic and vintage is whatever it means to the person asking. No more, no less.

EDIT: I guess I should have added my criteria...

Classic refers to style, I know it when I see it.
Vintage refers to age, the cutoff point is arbitrary.

Close enough?

My personal C&V breakdown in years:
"Antque" = 60 years and older
"Vintage" = 40 years and older
"Classic" = 20 years and older
"Modern but Non-current" = 5 years and older

This is a vintage bicycle...

At 53 she is well on her way to becoming an antique and would be classic if you consider that the French continued to design bikes like this for the next 25 years with very few changes.

Generally, you'll get away with discussing it on C&V if it is more than 20 years old, or nearly so. Beyond that it gets squishy.

"I don't do vintage
I bought them new, rode them, kept them
Now they are just old bikes"

You answered your own question in your avatar.

If you're over 50 it's the bike you owned in high school. That works for me anyway.

Sixty Fiver, every time a new thread appears asking what's classic or vintage is, just post a photo of your bike .. I can't think of a better definition than that!

My Pinarello is from around '98, but it's lugged butted steel, horizontal TT, 25.4 and 28.6 tubes, 1" threaded fork, 32h box section rims... Not vintage or classic, maybe traditional?

At the bare minimum, classically-styled.

Same here.

I consider this Peugeot folder a vintage bike, but not classic. There were a crap ton of these bikes made back in the day.

Nah, it's good to rehash it every once in a while.
