Selling "groups" on eBay?
Because I have been divesting myself of several frames, I have several C&V groups or combinations of parts I may not use. What luck have you had selling groups or combinations of parts on eBay?
Thanks |
I've only sold 1 group and was pleased with the price. Its was a 1987 Shimano 105 group less the hubs with only 10 miles on it and it was in almost NOS condition.
I've tried selling derailleur sets consisting of front and rear derailleurs with shift levers and have had not so good luck. Unless you have an overly rare high end complete group I'd part it out. |
Sold a couple groups in the last two weeks. Sold them both piecemeal. It really depends on the grade/model/year/scarcity/etc. Just remember, ebay is the land of variance. What can sell this week for $200 today, can sell for $20 tomorrow.
It can be quite frustrating. I have bought mid grade Suntour derailleurs on ebay for as little as 99 cents. +1 To below: As a seller, collecting from one person is a lot easier than chasing after ten buyers. |
In my experience, you can often sell a group for $100-$150, if it has everything but wheels.
You can generally sell the wheels, separately, for $75-$125. Rarely, can you get more than $200 for the combination, as the bike they go on may not be worth the $200 investment, as it still may need consumables and other components. Individual components will bring about the same, with the hassle of shipping everything separately. |
Sold a Shimano 600 group minus the wheels for $125.00, but that was a year ago.

i've been collecting dura ace and ultegra 9 speed parts from ebay. I was initially put off by the price of an entire group. Now that I've been buying single parts and paying shipping on all of them, I realize I would've been far ahead having bought a group. I know sellers are making money on shipping, as I've seen prices on the boxes. In the end a buyer is better off buying a group (IMO). I don't know that this means a seller is better off parting it out though... It really comes down to what your time is worth to you. If you sell them singly, you have to deal with packaging them singly, listing them all, feed back, chasing payment from more buyers, etc. You might get a bit more selling them individually, but I don't know if it's worth it.
