Help with a Benotto
5 Attachment(s)
I just bought this bike for 85$. I didnt know anything about it and it needed some fixing up but it had some nice components so I thought at very least I could use the light weight frame for a fixie.
I looked for a serial number next to the heart and it said 1406, thats it. The 0 looked more like a backwards C but i assumed it was 0. Could someone help me with dating or figuring out what model this bike is? Or even just anything about the derailleurs. |
an oldie. but a goodie.
mid 70's? |
I'm moving this thread to Classic & Vintage (from Road Cycling). Carry on...

haha pretty sure this is in Winnipeg! Was thinking about scooping it up yesterday but was gone by the time I got off work. I can't say for sure but I believe it's a Benotto 850 I'd say 1983-ish? (don't quote me on it) I THINK it was Mexican made (the production switched from Italy to Mexico at... some point) though I haven't been able to find any definite information as to how to tell for sure (short of a 'made in ... ' stamp) If you're going to fixie it shoot me a PM I was interested in the components myself. I

Yup its from Winnipeg. Sorry Sauze, I couldnt NOT buy it after checking it out. Once I fix it up I likely wont go fixed gear on it.
How can I tell what kind of Campy group it is? Will it say something somewhere? |
I'm no Campy expert, I'd just do a little forum searching for Benotto in the title.
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=369168 not a bad place to start. |
Not a campy expert but it looks like a Triomphe derailleur 84 ish

For $85, nice catch. Coincidentally, someone just passed me on the street about 30 minutes ago with a very similar Benotto in blue, and I complimented him on his bike.
But...what's up with that seatpost? It looks strange (is that a black rubber sleeve?), and appears to be backward. If you don't mind my nitpicking, I'd suggest another saddle. And the front brake cable should be re-routed in behind of the bars to match the routing of the rear brake cable. Looks like the rear derailleur could be a Campagnolo 990: http://www.velobase.com/ViewComponen...=108&AbsPos=38 Enjoy! |
Thanks Gaucho!
Yes, that saddle/seat post are the first thing to fix. One of its past owners thought they could just force whatever seat onto whatever bike and it would fit. It's currently at a LBS and hopefully they can get that eye sore outta there. Ive got a nice Wrights leather saddle that im gonna throw on there. |
