Help IDing cleats...
Not sure how old these are. They look to be older style look compatible (Shimano PD-7401). Can anyone help confirm?

The top (black) ones appear to be Shimano 7401, as you suspeted.
The red ones are Looks. I could be wrong, since I just went clipless in the last couple of years, and don't ride either of those, but that's my best guess. |
I think you are right. Anyone know which pedals those red ones will fit into? I do not think they are KEO compatible.
Cheers, Guy |
You are correct. They are not KEO compatible. They will fit a wide variety of Look compatible pedals, though.

Thanks guys. I believe these are Look Delta cleats!

Yes, that is correct. Delta was the model I was looking for. I have some older Campagnolo pedals that use those.

are those the big metal hunkers? I had those and I gave them away or lost them or my dog ate them. damn, I wish I had those again!

No way, those bad boys are light weight compared to the ones I am referring to. I lost mine some time since I had kids. They are heavy.

The red cleats are probably the look ARC cleats with a bit of angular float, early 90's.

http://www.velobase.com/CompImages/P...DD5DA5090.jpeg When Look first introduced their clipless pedals they created such a hit that Shimano and Campy were caught with their pants down. Look was very protective of their patents and both Campy and Shimano ended up selling Look-built pedals rebranded as their own (the aforementioned Shimano 7401 and Campy PD12-RE). Neither company was particularly happy with this arrangement, and each decided to independently develop their own clipless systems to avoid Look's patents. Shimano came up with SPD, and Campy came up with SGR. The SPD system caught on quickly; it was light, unobtrusive and worked well. SGR failed on the market; the pedals were heavy and the clipless mechanism was less reliable than either SPD or Look and was soon dropped. |
