Colnago Rankings, from the 1970s

so i found an ad posting for a colnago super in the classifieds, it's black and says colnago super, i was thinking about getting a colnago for my next bike but i'm just unsure of the model rankings, he says in the ad that it's a colnago super, i know there's other models and people always talk about the master.

can you guys tell me the models and ranking in their lineup from the 70's?, thanks

In the 70's, the Super was the flagship model for Colnago (the only model at the start of the decade). It was displaced at the top of the Colnago hierarchy by the Mexico circa 1975. There were a few lesser models as well in the 70's, but the Super continued to carry the flag for Colnago for the most part. Things get confusing by '82-84 or so, and that's when the proliferation of models, including the Master, begins to push the Super down the lineup. I would personally want to be sure it's a 70's Super, as Colnagos - and indeed vintage bikes generally - are often misdated, usually earlier than their actual year of manufacture.

Thanks for this info.

When Colnago diversified their lineup after the Super, we had so many choices.

All we did before that was choose a new color for the Super every other year or so!

Until recently I owned a '71 Super that was really beautifully built. The early 70's Supers were often very, very nice and then went into slow decline - though they still rode and raced nicely.

We have two early 80's Supers that are a mile apart in paint quality.

My oldest son chides me for riding his quickly. He swears the paint is blowing off! :)

They both ride very well though, and are predictable performers.

He has been looking to sell that bike for awhile now so I am sure you can talk him down a bit. See if you can get a couple of photos to post here as there were a lot of Colnago decals sold in Toronto back in the '80s, if you catch my drift.

Kool thanks for the heads up jet sanchez, i would have to definately look at the BB and other markings on the frame to make sure it actually is a colnago when i do decide to come and see it.
