Vintage Repro Jerseys...
Stumbled upon these on Ebay:
http://shop.ebay.com/cyclingstuff69/...4.l1513&_pgn=1 Anyone have any experience with them??? |
I bought one. The are completely modern in material and construction, but with olde decorating. Quality is only average, but they do look great when worn. Where else are you going to find one that matches your olde bicycle?
|
I know it's modern kit...but...How was the shipping time? What's the quality of the materials, sewing, and chamois like (if you got shorts)???
TIA

Mark,
My wife purchased a kit for me and it looks great. However, I noticed white "batting" showing through pinholes in my shorts about ten miles into my first wearing. It's almost like a cat stuck it's claws into several (as in dozens) of places and when the claw retracted, it pulled out some of the padding. I'm not actually suggesting a cat did this at their site, just trying to explain what it looks like. The kit hasn't gone through it's first wash yet, so I'll let you know what I discover in the dryer tonight. Mark |
They sure do look cool, but if I bought a throwback jersey like that, I'd want it to be made of wool.

I know... I don't really like logo'd up jersey's much, so I would be inclined to get the cheaper one for occasional wear.
Thinking about the Sanson Gelati/Campagnolo or the Wolf.

Right. But, I'd be more inclined to pay $120 for a wool one than $50 for a polyester jersey. That said, I don't own a jersey for which I paid $120!

I've never ridden in one of these, do you wear a t-shirt underneath? I would think the wool ones would be itchy if they are against your bare skin...no?
|
No...Merino wool is SUPER soft. I wear Icebreaker LS merino base layers under poly Ts or jerseys.
I would buy a ton of wool jerseys if they weren't so pricey...looking forward to the Ibex GB Marty is setting up! Having said that, I will probably buy one of these repro kits given the total cost of $82...

There's a rider in my club that has this one. It is quite nice.
http://www.vintagevelos.com/53-130-t...eve-jersey.jpg That's one of the ones made by Woolistic. I've always heard they make the best, but I tried them yet. |

After doing a bunch of looking around, I purchased, and just received in the mail today, this Woolistic made Vittoria retro jersey.
Front and rear feature the same lettering and it has the traditional 3 rear pockets. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_FfM_jO4_Tm0/TN...0/P1000789.JPG |

Thanx for the follow-up...I think I'll skip 'em...

Wifey bought me the Wolf for our anniversary and it's been chilly enough to wear it twice this past week - I LOVE it!!! (and it beats the heck out of the polyester "throwback" kit I got of of eBay, too... the jersey and - especially - the shorts are looking kind of sad after just two washes.)

Speaking of vintage jerseys... Does anybody know of a source of plain vintage stripe jerseys? Specifically where the body of the jersey is just 3 color bands. Imagine the flag of France or Italy in a vertical position. Preferably in today's fast wicking hi tech fabrics. Yes, hi-tech. Not wool.
I have searched and googled and can't seem to find anything... |
