How do i tellif i have a motobecane bike

I think I have a 60's or 70's tour de france riviera. I heard it might be a motobecane but I don't know how to tell if it is. Any help?

A picture, or pictures, will help with your question. Send good clear pictures of frame and component details, then ask your question.

If your bicycle looks like mine, then you do have a Motobecane. Of course, if I don't present a picture, you have nothing to compare to and my statement is all but useless. Get some pics and the folks on the forum will jump at the chance to assist.

Well, it may be a Riviera but it's not a Motobecane Riviera. They were folding bicycles.

Bike boom department store quality bike in poor condition. Needs a lot of work. Unless you have the tools/time/aptitude/interest in doing the work yourself, I would pass this bike on. Even then, I would pass it on myself. As is, might be a $10 bike. Fully restored it might be a $50 bike, and it would cost quite a bit more than that to restore, even if you do the work.

If it is indeed a lowball bike, it could still make for a theft proof college "rat bike", which will actually serve a college kid better than something modern/CF he/she can't take everywhere because he/she will always have to worry about it out there. I used one in college that I think my older brother bought from Sears. It was my main transportation around the campus and the neighborhood for at least a year till I got my Peugeot to replace it. It's still alive in my brother's garage in SE Wisconsin. I think his son is now using it for the same purpose.
I wouldn't bother cleaning it too much, just grease/adjust and make sure everything is working nice and secure and it will make for that perfect conveyance for a college or highschool kid.
I wouldn't even change that saddle as it is kryptonite to bike stealers.....
