ISO Creative Drawer/Artist for a Project
Hey guys, so my high school club and team is finally getting off the ground due to the dedication of the rest our founding officers and our awesome teacher moderator.
However, we're missing a very important element for our jerseys and club use throughout the year... A LOGO!
So, yes, while this may be an ISO post, it's more of a creative one so I think it's fine to go here. If it's not, then by all means move or remove it.
Essentially, we need someone who is really good at drawing and is pretty creative as well, and it would be bonus points for any artists using computer programs initially. We can take print material because I can scan and silhouette in my editing software.
Anyway, we need an artist to draw our logo. Bishop O'Dowd High School's mascot is a dragon, and so we want our logo to be a dragon riding a bike.
Something like the very famous Mr. Moots:
...except not a dinosaur. And not a copyright infringement. Any type of bike too -- roadie, mountain, townie. It just has to look cool.
Anyone who's really dedicated and really wants to do this will be offered a reward, such as a set of water bottles or other types of reimbursement if requested.
Let me know what you guys can do, and if anyone is up for the challenge, PM me for my email and we can get started on collaboration and drafting.
Or, if you just want to post designs here so people could vote on them, that would be cool as well.

No art classes & students in your school? You might be surprised the talent you'll find.

Yep, make it a group project. A bunch of you start collecting parts and scroung up a freebie frameset and offer the finished bike to the winning artist. Or build up three or four bikes with donated parts and let the winner take their pick, then auction off the rest of the bikes as a fund raiser.
And take pics and show us the before and after pics of the final builds.

I'm an art teacher and my kids get really bothered when different groups in the school go outside the building to get a cool project (like a logo) created. If you have a graphic design course, see if they would be interested in working sketches up for you.

That's the thing guys, we've had an announcement put in every other day for the last two months of school calling all willing and able artists to come to our meetings so we can talk to them about our ideas.
One person showed up, and then said that our idea was stupid and elementary and then left.

Naw, don't post it, looking for volunteers. Kids just won't volunteer to do this sort of thing because they don't yet realize that the most desirable art assignments for professional designers are the logo projects. (Plus, they just don't volunteer for anything that doesn't result in a grade.)
Go to the graphic design teacher and ask him/her to assign it as a project. I do this sort of thing all the time to give my kids a taste of "real life" instead of make believe assignments. It's a much more authentic way to learn, and it benefits a worthy group outside the classroom. I already have my assignments outlined and in progress or I'd volunteer to have my kids do it for you.

Well, I can try that and see if my computer art teacher would be willing to do that. We don't have a graphic design class.
If that doesn't work, what about you, Azorch? Would you be willing to throw this assignment at your kids? We can come up with a prize or something for them, and something for your effort as well.

Can't this semester - our coursework is already outlined and in progress. Could possibly do it next semester though. It would be a fun, real life project.

now revealed to the forum...this is inspired by the roadway markings for "cycle path", but with a generic dragon instead of generic human on two wheels.
Had looked at having wings on the dragon, but it was getting too busy.
I did it facing both directions and have a couple of the color schemes I'd recommend...and it's been tweaked a little since this was uploaded.
and in stark black & white
usual boilerplate: it's copyright, trademarked all rights reserved and protected by pit bulls with .457 magnums.

hmmm, that's a thought^...I may take a look at that, though it might spoil the original visual reference...might make it look better as a competitive team logo...good point, jamesj.

dunno why they would not be visible, I can see them just fine (in fact, too big) on my 'puter...
here's the latest version(s) heads down and color on both. I am liking this one better, but Dan is the deciderer

I can see them now, and agree that these are really cool. They should be simple enough to put on jerseys or shorts. They will make very appealing team gear.
