a must see Colnago
so i'm on ebay once again, doing my daily, CL, and ebay scans, and i come across this:

just thought it'd be an interesting one for the members on this forum to check out.
It kinda adds to that gold pinarello that was posted here a couple weeks ago.
There's a bunch of gold plating on this bike, actual 24 karat is what they say.
Not sure if i like the color schemes that much, but it does seem nice
Oh by the way, it's been bidded up to $5000 and the reserve still hasn't been met

Well, the saddle's OK and the fork is nice. Other than that I have to say it's really one of the uglier bikes I've seen in a while.

That is by far some of the worst color work I've ever seen. Seriously, I'd be embarrassed to claim that as my own design.

I don't necessarily mind blue and gold together, but the execution here is not stellar. It's strange to see how uneven the gold fade is on the bottom half of the head tube. If I had a few extra G's, I'd rather spend my money on this Cinelli.

Which one? The Colnago or the Cinelli?
Personally I feel that Colnago to be well-balanced, even if not to my taste, whereas the Cinelli is simply wrong. I'm surprised at the price reached on the Cinelli. This is at least the second time around for the Colnago. BTW, the parts are indeed plated in 24 kt gold. Ernesto told me that he had the work done by a company that specializes in gold plating of religious artifacts, as they are one of the few that had sufficiently large dipping vats.

Gold mixed with polished alloy and chrome just doesnt look good. Some small things coulda helped make it look a whole lot better, like a black crankset with gold chainrings maybe, instead of silver on the derailleurs they coulda been black, the brake levers don't work either, if the hoods were black instead of white maybe.
Do the pro racers ever have to ride the anniversary stuff? I coulda swore during the 76 roubaix film a french team is riding a maroon colored cycle with gold theme parts.

I know Saronni rode with a Campy 50th rear derailleur - seen pics of that online.
I'm a big Colnago fan, but I am not feeling the love on this particular bike, either. In fact, I'm no fan of gold plating, period. Chrome? Sure, it serves a purpose beyond looks. But gold? Just flash. I like flash with a purpose if I like it at all.

I generally don't mind extensive gold anodized (or plated) componentry...
...and I certainly don't mind the Record groupset on the Colnago - but boy is that paint job ugly. Not only is it ugly, it's slovenly.
Oh - one other thing: I don't care what the seller says, a slant-parallelogram RD ain't C-Record.
