Got Me a Minty 1980 Voyageur...
No chrome, sorry, I know that's what you came in here wanting. I got a pretty darn good deal on this thing, its my size (well at the big end of it) and I've been needing a big touring-y bike to outfit with fenders and racks and all sorts of fun stuff.
I also must confess, I'm the hackiest of bike wrenches. Until last year, I couldn't even change a bike tire. I've been waiting for a great project to work on to overhaul, fortunately this one is starting off in great shape. I'll be slowly building up the tools I don't yet have. Here's some teaser photos, I'll put some better quality ones up when I have something better than my phone camera. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6495726_n.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4784/voyageur.jpg A couple quick questions: Will it be possible to get a smaller small ring for alpine gearing (Sugino Super Maxy)? Is the odd seatpost sizing a problem? The Schwinn tires are still holding air, but the gumwall is definitely crumbling. Hoods are bubbling/decaying. Still has the original Schwinn labeled cabling. |
Is the seat post broken? If not why replace it? It will tough to get a smaller chain ring. If you really need lower gears I would suggest getting a cheap, used newer mountain bike and us the triple and derailluers of it on you bike. Something with Shimano LX components would serve you well. Roger

this was my first flip, and i regret letting it go. thanks for reminding me.
seriously, this is a sweet bike. i personally wouldn't call it touring-y, but it would be good for all-day rides. |
Uh oh, red Schwinns appear to be reproducing in my bedroom:

Nice bike check out that rear brake hows that working out!!!!!!
|
did the previous owner explain why the rear brake is installed the way it is? What would be the purpose?
|
I have no idea about that...guy didn't say why.
I'm sure the mystery will reveal itself as I start peeling the onion of overhauling... |
Why have you caged the Bon Appetit magazines?
Nice bike, by the way. |
