campagnolo model identification help (again)
 

I am stripping some bikes and find myself once again baffled by the apparent anonymity of various Campagnolo models.
I would like to keep my apples and oranges separate, or rather my Athenas, Choruses and Records etc straight....

I expect it is simply a matter of developing an experienced eye for the design differences (I am working through Frank Berto's book slowly. Can anyone direct me to another Dummies "Campagnolo Model Deciphering" source?)

Can anyone help me figure out what era and model these cranks and this FD are? (and how you would tell?)

and this is NR but SR was very smilar except for the big ring (and the smal?) did not have the extra ring by the bolts

I dunno, but Campagnolo seems to have had a sort of identity crisis right after the Victory group was issued. It was so much easier when it was just GS, NR and SR we had to deal with. After the Victory, Delta/C groups, there seems to be less of a signature look to the Campagnolo components that would have made it easier to identify which was which Didn't help that some of them had printed on logoes that wore off, specially at the cranks. I myself have a couple 90's Campagnolo components that I'm not quite sure what they really are even after doing all sorts of searches and posts on the net to try and pin them down. I was hopng to use them and start a first for me, Italian bike project, but the confusion and uber high pricing that comes with dealing with 90's Campagnolo components dampened my enthusiasm that they will most likely be sitting for a while till after a few more French projects uses up all my French stash. Maybe I'll just find/build up myself an easier to figure out full SR or NR group instead to start an 80's Italian bike project.....anyway, indexing,.....I never really had a need for them......

The front derailleur is Record-C. We know this because of the flat outer cage and the shape of the outer swing arm (bowed rectangle vs. waistband shape of the Chorus and Croce D'aune fronts).

I have to. They are coming off of some damaged frames that would be unsaleable all built up.
Or, there was a mishmash of parts that made no sense (e.g. Record cranks, Mafac brakes, and.... a Sora rear Derailleur?) i hurt my brain just thinking about it all. better to break 'em down and put back groups that make sense.

umm, yea, am doing when possible. but like the NR stuff came off an ancient aluminum ALAN with a MAVIC BB. so where's the consistency there?
Oh yea, and it had 105 brake levers. But on a beautiful CInelli bar and stem combo.Go Figure.

Yeah, I'm going with early Athena as well on the more modern crankset.

what's the Tell that suggests Athena?
