No, I still haven't measured the seat post. I've just made a deal with another BFer for the frame, so I'll be on the lookout for another winter project.

ah, okay then. what's the new project?

The new project is finding a new project! The Jeunet is going to a good home. I'm sure we will see it again.

gaucho777 -

this would have been imported/distributed by Beacon Sales Co. of Oakland, CA ca. 1971.

I wouldn't know. I don't recall seeing a shop sticker. I picked it up as a frame/fork at the SF Bike Swap and then passed it on to its current caretaker Grand Bois.

Haha what's going on with that headbadge. Normally the sun would be smiling and positive but that one looks depressed.

I like the faded green & patina, looks good already + a bit of tidying up.

Grand Bois 05-23-15 05:28 AM

I still have it.

I recently swithed to Cinelli Priest bars and Weinmann side pulls.

Nice Frenchy build.

That paint is pretty interesting. Looks to be a metallic basecoat with a transparent green on top. The green pigment or dye (probably the latter) faded with exposure to direct sunlight. California tends to get a lot of sun. The high reflectivity base coat made things worse. Such was the state of candy-apple finishes in those days.

Grand Bois 05-23-15 07:44 AM

You're right. The old candy finishes were short lived. It seems like the paint was porous because the metallic base coat would oxidize.

I would like the bike less without the patina.

The chrome looks like it could have been done yesterday. It's the same way with my Peugeots. Some people say that French chrome is bad. Not in my experience.

Beacon folded tent in the mid-'70's and their space went to a Lazy-Boy lounge chair company...and to the workshop of Albert Eisentraut, and later Ed Litton. Building later demolished for freeway widening project.

Wow, am I the only one that noticed the heavyweights from yesteryear in this old thread that are sadly not posting here anymore?:(

Very nice old Frenchy by-the-way!

very nice build big woods ;) she looks just great!

am thinking that if you ran 27's the extra four mm might allow you to run 500's instead of 730's. expect there would still be room for the guards...

are those luxe competitions or 700's she is wearing, can't tell from here...

juvela, just doon the road in Shqiperi

Grand Bois 05-24-15 07:43 AM

The brakes in the second picture are Weinmann 500's, not 730's. The brakes in the first picture are cheap Tektros. I decided that they were out of place, even though they worked well.

The hubs are Normandy Luxe Competition. It's a tubular wheelset from a PX10 of about the same age.

juvela 05-24-15 08:35 AM

thanks very much Grand Bois. :thumb:

there is something about the angle, or or perhaps a photographic effect in the second photo which made me think the calipers were longer.

if the luxe competitions are same age as frame then they would be second generation with the gold and black foil labels.

fine looking machine! :)

Alameda swap coming up 7 June.

You should post this in the values thread with better pics. If it is the 531 framed bike it will be of better value but if it's the one with Simplex derailleurs with plastic parts, it may be worh 75.00 or so depending on area. I bought one last weekend for the tubular/sewup wheelset alone.
