Help finding special brake line ferrule
I'm building a nice RecordAce frame and have run into an issue with the top tube brake cable braze-ons. They seem to be cable guides but are too narrow for the cable housing. I've built a couple bikes with something similar on the chain stay just in front of the rear derailleur. In that case I've used a ferrule that fits the derailleur housing but narrows on the other end to fit the braze-on. They were spares from some DA bar end shifter kits. I need something similar for brake housing.
I hope someone can tell me the correct terminology or a source for such a part. |

I just came across some plastic ones that step down from regular ferrule-size to just big enough to pass the cable through. |

Ok, I eventually found something at JensonUSA but will probably stop by the LBS to save on shipping. A long long search of my stash turned up two Jagwire plastic ferrules that will work but look out of place. I did find a single shiny metal ferrule that works perfectly in some bag of a half dozen ferrules. Perhaps the LBS will have a matching one.
This build has had some setbacks. The pass through brake lever (non aero) adjuster isn't drilled for the cable and one spoke is broken on the rear wheel. |
I've got a couple of those ferrules that the housing fits into, and then has a "nose" about 1/2 the diameter.. Would those help?

It's called a “step-down” ferrule. The ones I know have a “nose” that's 4 mm dia.

I've only ever seen them for the RD cable. I have a bagful of those.... if you want some, shoot me a PM. |
