Jack Browns? Perfect fit! Expensive, yes, but that hasn't stopped me from the other expensive crap on this bike! You only live once!

Very nice! I've not ridden Jack Browns, but I do like my Rolly Polly tires a great deal, and the tread pattern looks to be pretty much the same.

Right, Neal. I think they're the same other than size. The Rolly Polly is 28mm with no Kevlar. The Ruffy Tuffy has Kevlar and a slightly thicker tread. The Jack Brown (green label) is 33-35mm with no Kevlar. The blue label JB has Kevlar and a slightly thicker tread.

I'd have to think that the Jack Brown is about as close in many ways to the Grand Bois Hetre as you can get in a 700c.

I made some progress last night. The cut the housing and adjusted the derailleurs. I can't find the speaker wire I purchased the last time I installed a dynamo light so I'll have to buy some this evening. The Kool Stop Thinline pads I need in order to use the VO Grand Cru brakes with these wide rims on this particular bike should arrive by Friday. It should be complete this weekend with the exception of a rear rack and rack-mounted taillight.

I decided against the interrupter levers.

These are terrible cell-phone pics.

Oh, man, stunning! That second picture really shows how integrated your color scheme came out.

I've noticed that the lugwork on these Voyageurs is particularly nice, and the bottle cage mounts have nice little diamond lugs. I think outlining them in gold (or silver?) would really set them off!

those Jack Browns were worth it. :thumb:

Thanks, brother! I've considered outlining the head lugs and maybe the BB cluster, but I'm going to hold off on that for a while. I'm afraid that with all the stainless and polished aluminum it'll be too much detail. The diamonds on the bottle cage bosses are a very cool. I've always been a fan of those.

I'm not sure that grey housing wouldn't have looked better, but that's something that can be changed without too much trouble down the road if that's what I decide.

I know. My wife insisted she be able to park it in my work space. Something about it being cold in the morning and scraping ice and yadda yadda yadda. Whatyagonnado?

It's a three stage powder coat. Details are on the first page.

Thanks again for the compliments. I really do enjoy the process.

I wired the E6, installed part of the computer and wrapped the bars tonight.

CJL-- lovely job, and i'm not even remotely into touring bikes. love the jack brown's. i just some on a 'neighborhood bike' and love the way they feel-light, but soft and smooth

I'm going to have a custom head badge made. I'm just not sure about the design. There is a seller on Etsy that offers copper head badges.

I still don't have a rear rack, but it's pretty much finished.

Can you post details of how the speedometer is mounted to the side of the stem. Looks like you drilled and tapped a hole.

southpawboston 01-30-11 03:45 PM

Holy shiest, that came out wonderfully. Incredible attention to detail, and a well-thought out rig. The powder coating looks fantastic. Did you drill and tap the Technomic? Great way to integrate the computer! What cassette are you using? Have you done the shakedown cruise yet?
