new to the forums. vintage owner.
hey all. newb to the boards here. i have inherited a few classic (1975) raleighs over the past week and also own a vintage hiawatha(1968 i think). any ways im kinda looking to restore these as they were my grandparents who passed. any ideas where the best place to get vintage parts? any inputs would help. thank you

Hey I'm also new just joined recently and found that sheldonbrown.com has a wealth of great info to get started. Also, try Velo-Orange.com they have great hard to find parts. Welcome

I built and published MY "TEN SPEEDS" just for guys and gals like us. New to the interest of vintage bicycles and not sure where to begin. Anyway, you are invited to visit and, for those learning about bicycles, you might as well spend some time looking over Bicycle Basics. There you will learn to ask questions that might not come to mind the first time out of the vintage bicycle gate.

Welcome, Pics would be great! The Hiawathas were tanks but they made some cool bikes (I think anyways).

Depends... waddya need? I find the generosity of the folks around here to be pretty awesome. We're all in this for the same purpose and there's a lot of trade and barter. And yes... pictures, please. I have a few old Raleighs myself.

Consumable parts: cables, tires, that kind of stuff: Niagara Cycle.
Vintage parts: vintage derailleurs, cranksets, etc: donor bike.
Donor bike = find a similar bike of similar vintage, at an attractive price, and harvest the parts. I commonly pick up donor bikes anywhere from $5 to $30 for the vintage stuff. A typical donor bike will have some serious flaws: rust, frame damage, etc. Such flaws make the bike a bad choice as a rider, but a terrific choice as a donor. I bought a craptastic Huffy ten speed for $2 at a church sale, used the handlebars, grips,brake levers, stem, and saddle on a bike I was building up. Still have the shift levers too. The rest of it is junk, but for $2?
