Held Identifying Cannondale frame
 

I posted this elsewhere and was told to report here. Sorry if it's misplaced.

I have a Cannondale frame I'm having trouble identifying. Picture here: http://picasaweb.google.com/releach/...57710893293170

It fits a 27 x 1 1/4" touring wheel, and appears to have suntour components. I can't find any other identifying information. I'm a beginner when it comes to putting bikes together, and I wanted to start with this frame, so I hope to have some better info on what it is while I look for compatible components.

It's a touring model. Double eyelets for rack and fender mounts. Also the bridge above the rear brake mount is for mounting a rack. Does the the fork have a hole through each side at about the middle? I'll look through some catalogs to see if I can ID the year and model.

would love to see some pics. but IIRC the only Cdales to have 27" wheels were the early touring bikes like pre '89/90(?)

releach, Find the S/N, it's either on the BB shell or on the seat tube. First two digits are size, inches if a touring, and it looks like one, the next six is the manufacture date and the remaining are the sequence number.

I would love to find a 'dale made for 27" tires so I could put on 700c's and have room for decent tires and fenders....

Releach, where are you located? I'll trade you two racing frames (one red and nice shape and one spray painted. Both same size as yours) for your yellow one ;)

Mine came with 27" wheels but the fenders would not clear the 1 & 1/4 Panaracer tires. It now sports 700c wheels and I'm nearly certain I can run 28mm Continental Gatorskins. Currently it has an old pair of 25mm Gatorskins.

So you were right on.

I'm sure I'm betraying my inexperience with bicycles by saying that I didn't realize by looking that this frame is way too big for me. I usually ride a 17.5" or 18" frame. No point in working on a bike that I can't comfortably ride...if anyone is interested in trading for parts or instruction (you'd have to live in Western MA for the latter) I'd be down. Thanks again for your info and comments...

The oversize aluminum tubing hides a inch or two.

releach, Cannondale frames when measured C-C or often smaller than listed size, for example my 58 cm frames are 55.5. Check yours before you give up.

PS If it weren't yellow (very bad luck color for me)...

With 45mm fenders and you can probably squeeze in some 700X32's, anything bigger won't clear the rear chainstays and the brake bridge and fork become a problem for the fender mounts. but fenders are nice when its pouring or dusty.

How tall are you and what standover height works for you? A 21" ST frame has a standover of under 30".

I'm 5'7"ish. I'll measure my standover once I get home from work--anyway, thanks for your suggestions. I am going to PM you to talk suntour parts trades or buys...
