Mike, it was truely a lovely frame. But I guess now I have your Kestrel 4000 to look forward to. The Gios has been stripped, and the groupset moved over to a Kestrel 200 frame.
Im feeling fine, Bianchigirll. The frame looks bent like crazy, but I wasnt too badly injured, as it proabably took the brunt of the impact.

How quickly things happen QuangVuong. Your new Gios was beautiful (what Gios isn't?) and a real bargain too. Glad to read that you are ok. Here's hoping the new Kestral provides many years of trouble free riding.

It's not actually mine. A good friend asked me to find him and SLX frame. This Cinelli supercorsa floated up. I had to repaint the stripped frame and finish it with odd japanese parts to hand over a rideable bike. The kid who sold it to me has emailed me 3 separate times asking if I'd be interested in selling it back.

Massive bump up! I picked this Gios Compact Pro frame up for $75 at the beginning of November. Built it up with a 105 SC group, and end result was a 10.5kg bike.
A month later(yesterday actually), I destroyed the frame. I rear ended a car only hundreds of metres away from home. Just at that moment i was looking down at the front wheel, and I flew over the bars. Picked myself up, and the bike, but tended to my busted lip before all else. Noticed I couldnt steer, and then realised I had just bent the frame. Looking back at the GPS data, I was going at 25km/h when I collided into the rear bumper of the X5. I came out alright with only a few tiny bruises and abrasions, and a busted lip, but nothing too serious.
Did about 350km on it, so I got my $75 value out of it, but still it is the loss of a pretty good frame. I am sad that this has happened even though it could have been prevented if I was paying more attention. It was totally my fault. Most surprisingly is that all the other components are fine. Front wheel is a couple mm out of true, but not dented or broken at all, and my brake levers are scratched.
It will be hung up for the time being. Maybe in the later future, I will get it repaired. Or Id track down another Gios frame.

The following might make you feel better. I crashed into a car with a Gios Torino and the same damn thing happened to my top and down tubes. This was a Jr's race in 1985, and they, the dumb **** officals let a car onto the course so she can go home. The person and I broke off for half a lap and he took a very long pull coming out of a turn and his head was down, nose touching the stem hammering and he hit the stupid car and went through the window and I was sucking wheel going through it with him. We were cut up and blood all over with our mangled frames. He had an OLMO that was destroyed. I was pissed and never bought another Gios after that. After that, I was able to buy the touring bike made by the people who only build racing frames, Medici because it was cheaper then most that I can afford at the time. it was really a fine bike.

Late '70s Gios Super Record - fantastic bike, I could ride it all day.
And here's a link to the rest of the fleet: My Bikes (so far)
