I am thankful for...
- Living in the USA.
- My wife of 28 years. - My family at home, healthy, and safe. - Especially for my son, an Army MP, home from Iraq, active duty completed. - All three kids in college. - This forum and the friendliest, most knowledgable and helpful people anywhere on classic and vintage bicycles. - The political and financial freedom to engage in this hobby. Thank you all for making the art of collecting, restoring, maintaining, and riding classic & vintage bicycles more simple, more interesting, more understandable, more fun than it would be otherwise. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! |

My home, my son, my partner, my step-daughters, my job and my very, very sweet bikes. A lot to be thankful for this year! And my adorable kitty, who is curled up next to me as I write this, in our nightly ritual: I sit down, turn on the electric lap blankie, get out the computer to read some bike forums, and she snuggles up to roll around, purr, rub my hand with her nose and just be cute. Something warm, loving and cute is all you need, you know? :)
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! |

Grace.
My wife, with her incredible reservoir of caring and compassion. My mom who loves me no matter what. My sister and brother-in-law and niece and nephew. My other family, who I don't see often, but think of every day. My dog, who daily provides me with an example of a loving, joyful, mindful, and genuine way to live. My body that continually functions above expectations and provides me with amazing advantages and opportunities. My friends who show me wonderful love and affection. The earth for being full of wonders and beauty and challenges that fill me with positive feelings and make me a better person. That I live in a society whose beliefs and traditions give me a large--an unprecedented--measure of personal freedom, security, and physical well-being, and the hope for a possible future free of oppression, tyranny, exploitation, war, suffering, and fear. |
... that someone invented a transportation device that is as effective and FUN as the bicycle.

Fresh air to breath, clean water to drink, healthy food to eat, a natural world to explore, and people share it with. I'm also thankful for a world of diverse ideas, religions and cultures, populated by decent people who care for and respect others, regardless of ideological persuasion.

Mike, my wife and I also lost a child...to Trisomy 18 at 32 weeks. I really know what you're going through. Believe me when I say many more people than you'll ever know understand and share your grief. My prayers to you and yours this holiday weekend.

Keith, Mike, I too say prayers for your babies. I can't think of a greater loss than one's child.
My wife is a breast cancer survivor, and so mortality is never far from our minds. BBM, I have told my son your message. He nodded, silently. He is teaching himself bass guitar at the moment. He has acted as an extra in a couple of movies and a TV show shot in the Detroit area so far since coming home, and has a part in another film shooting in Grand Rapids on Sunday. He takes parts that allow him to work around his college class schedule. Not bad for a war vet at age 22. |

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm not saying I can completely relate to your experience, but having a 16 month old son and a 4 month old daughter myself I actually almost teared up reading your post when I thought about having to deal with that. I suppose it must make you remember not to take anyone for granted that you have in your life now.
