Just kidding. I don't think its such a good deal after shipping cost. If it is mint with 600 sti 8 speed, then it will be a fair price. The description says 7 speed, I counted 3 times, and each time I only came up with 6 cogs in the back.

Seems like the drop out obscures the smallest cog on the front side. Count on the back side.

I'd probably only buy it if it was local, so I could examine it, spare the cost of shipping, and the risk to the frame of a poor packing job.

Weren't these the ones that were prone to failure? Glued lugs not holding up to time? Or am I thinking of a different bike?

that is a GREAT bike. I had one I bought in 1990 and used for 17 years before giving it away to my son-in-law's brother... I still miss it. IT was one of the best bikes I hae ever ridden. All 105, very reliable. If I didn't have so many bikes now I'd pick it up -- it was a good commuter.

Only the first shipment according to someone who used to work for Specialized back when the Allez Epic was new. Here is the thread. Read the discussions on March 14th 2010.

Here's a reply from Specialized regarding the separation issue:

"We seem to get that question a lot. Because other company had similar designs to ours, and have had problems, it does not mean we have had issue with our design. I would continue ride your current bike knowing that there has never been a recall. If you do run into any issue regarding your bike, please keep in mind that your current frame is covered by a life time warranty."

Not a bad price. I used to have one of them (without that horrid stem) that looked identical, and it was an 89. It was the only CF frame I've ever owned.

I only got 40 bucks to ship it, not bad in my opinion, having shipped a few bikes. I see 7 cogs, Like someone said it looks like the drop out is blocking the smallest cog.

I'm so temped...

My bad, I now see 7 cogs. IMO, even with free shipping, it's still $25 more than what I think is fair.

Approx $375 shipped. Not a steal but a good bike with Shimano 600. I have found slightly nicer bikes (STI) for the same price locally and equivalent bikes for $200, $100, and $50 at yard sales and craigslist. I've also been flipping (and keeping) bikes for several years and occasionally run into the incredible deal. If the bike is your size and you don't mind down tube shifting you shouldn't be hindered by worry about paying that price.

the difference for me is its condition. if it were clean with no visible rust or corrosion i would think it is a decent deal. that said, if it is a bike you want then i dont think it is out of line as is.

edit:

for me to be happy, i would have to strip it, clean the rust off the components, replace the chain, polish and wax everything, change the cable, replace the stem, change the saddle, and re wrap the bars.

How about this one. A little bit more but with 600 STI 8 speed.

That 7 speed Allez Epic is a relisted item. The last auction ended on Nov 25th with the highest bid of only $227.50. That's a much more realistic price than his "buy it now" price.

This bike in my area is closer to $400 But With 8 speed and the STI shifters I would see this being around $600 on CL.
