I went there about a year ago when these were first posted. It seemed almost like two operations: a co-op side and this collector's corner. But the reason all these bikes are still there is, as was suggested above, the guys were asking full retail plus prices.

For the parts, they had checked Ebay closely and figured the highest price ever recorded for a similar part was a good starting point, even if the part on hand wasn't in exactly pristine condition. The frame prices were the same. It's no wonder that it seems like every single one of the bikes donated over a year ago is still there.

I certainly wish the co-op side well. The activities seem to be good. But I do not suggest that anyone make a long drive thinking there will be any deals for C&V bikes, frames or parts there -- unless they post some actual prices beforehand.

sorry, but that was my experience.

It's probably good news that they aren't giving it all away. I have noticed that when a co-op does this, it breeds a lot of re-sale activity. Someone gets the bike cheap and then sells it on Craigslist. This really hurts business when donors discover that their donations are now up for grabs on CL.

Still, they should probably market their donations at local market value. The mission behind all co-ops should be to get bicycles out to people so they can use them, not to create wall-art.

For those on the other side of the pond who don't know about Chas Roberts......

https://www.robertscycles.com/

One of Britain's most respected frame builders. (In)famous here in UK for building and selling a top of the line steel framed mountain bike a good number of years ago and calling the model D.O.G.S. B.O.L.X. No kidding! If you're not sure what that (English) expression means, think about which parts of a canine's anatomy it can lick and you can't!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/roberts...7623051577183/

Old British joke: Man sees his friend's dog licking its privates. Man says "wish I could do that". Friend says "Don't let me stop you".

I know, I know. Maybe you had to be there............

Gerv is not about flippers why the stuff is still there IMO, and I understand what u say but for the love of mary... if you are running a coop that got probably like 98.9% of the stuff for free at least sell it to a reasonable price not full retail or almost full retail you know. Besides since is a coop probably they arent even paying darn taxes for the stuff they have since are donation so why just dont just try to move the stuff out and stop the hoarding habits?? Went there like a year ago, noticed the prices and daaaaaaaaaaaaarmmmm!!! big waste of time.

I agree 100% when u say "The mission behind all co-ops should be to get bicycles out to people so they can use them, not to create wall-art".

I believe if the op want's to do something right he should start putting prices of some of the stuff they will sell and willing to sell, or a list of descent items because in my case to drive like 45 mins to just see a bin with 500 busted stems being sold 10 bucks a piece is pretty much a waste, specially when a few miles away i have one of the best vintage stores in the country and probably cheaper as well. Not complaining just making a point u know.

Sheeerrssss....

I think he should pet the dog first.

Anybody familiar with https://www.cirqueducyclisme.com/ ??? (this is a clue)

Ok guys have fun in the garage sale or moving sale.

If anybody goes please take pictures of the stuff that was for sale and some of the prices please, hope is not like the chinese guy from falls church, almost all the bins with stuff he had were full of useless and expensive stuff. Rather drive 2 hours or more and go toe the next bike met at MD in feb or march. At least go there is sure thing.

I have been to a few bike shops that were owned by white people. Not sure if they were German, English, Serbian, Albanian, Polish, etc as I could not tell exactly. Some of them were really nice people and some of them were really d-bags...

I'm seriously considering having my thigh and shin bones shortened so I can fit on these tiny bikes you people ride. full 531 handbuilt frames in 60 or 62 are hen's teeth, mate.

I did NOT go. But it was fun meeting you at the other shop yesterday. I'm mostly a fair weather rider, but maybe when it warms up we can meet at the shop again and then go for a ride!

I didn't go either, but would be curious to hear from anyone who did, too.

In the meantime, do pay attention to the event ultraman noted above (repeated here: https://www.cirqueducyclisme.com/ )

A truly unique event. Nice riding country, too.

I've been to Cirque twice now, in 2009 and 2010. I love the show and am glad it's going to be in Leesburg once again this year.

I heard it from the organizer yesterday that they are going to have the swap meet at the hotel this year instead of at the fairgrounds as in the past, so that will be a lot more convenient atmo.
