Battaglin Italian Racing bike. 1987? (Grand Prairie)

I am selling a Battaglin Italian racing bicycle, I would call the Condition of this as good, and was a lucky find, I was told it was in a storage shed for 18 + years and not seen the light of day till last Friday,, Please look at the photos closely, There is some paint and decal loss surface rust , everything on the bike looks to be original, and moves freely , But not sure if the Look pedals are original ? All controls, brakes, gears, Ect. are in working condition. The seat is torn and has tape on it., Nothing looks bent or damaged, wheels run straight. I am not 100% positive but I think it is a 1987 Columbus. Shoot me a offer not sure of its worth , but do know enough not to give it away, I will be putting on flea bay tonight on auction if no interest here.
I am selling this bike as I found it, have not tried cleaning it up or lubed anything, Be a great bike for restoration, as it is complete, and sought after. What I know about it, I looked up on the net.

Thanks for looking.

If you need more better photos let me know, can email you some.

This one is pretty bastardized, but is a Columbus frame and has a few Campi parts remaining. If anybody wants better pics, I can email them to you. I've been in contact with the seller.

He had this bike posted about a month ago. I talked with the guy that put it on CL for the bike shop. Apparently a friend of his, it sounded like it had a bit of a rough life. I talked myself out of it too due to the mismatched parts and need for a repaint. Although the 9 speed drive train was interesting with bar ends.

The price was $400 a month ago, so I don't think he is negotiating much.

I'd say factor in the price of a repaint/new decals and make an offer accordingly. If this bike nice fresh repaint at close to this cost I doubt you'd the thinking twice...

Looks like the front end of the bike went through some serious hardship with that oxidation on front hub and fork crown. +1 on checking the seat post. Personally I wouldn't pull my wallet out until I was sure that stem releases as well, but maybe I'm paranoid.

I think you are in a good position. I'd guess it's overall fugliness will turn off 70-80% of buyers. But it can only be improved from here...

Early 70's with quite a few good parts. $400 is a fair price. The frame/fork, as is, would go north of $300 on ebay any time.

I can't wait to hear how this turns out. There's something great about knowing you hooked someone up with a terrific deal and bike.

The frame seems straight but it's really in bad shape. There is rust on the seat tube that was painted over in black marker and it seems pretty deep. Stem and seat post are not stuck.

No movement on price. Was told it's going to eBay if he doesn't get $400. Nice parts there but I don't want parts. I want a colnago.

If it's in very good to excellent condition, NR triples can bring maybe $200 or more. The boomers are getting old!

Hubs are super super rusty. Grime all over everything but aside from the hubs and frame everything else is in decent shape with cleaning.

I think buy it, part it, sell it and use it to fund a nicer Colnago.

Actually...if the frame is really that bad, and the hubs are shot...pass.

When I find a bike with a badly compromised frame, I just adjust my offer to reflect the value of key components alone. Rust scares away most buyers. Too bad the hubs are bad. Could have been some good value there.

You drove all the way out there. Is the rust on the ST really that bad? Maybe ask the seller to scrape it. If nothing else, you could probably part it out to get your $400 back. You gotta come home with a trophy, man!

everyone keep your eyes peeled on ebay. If the seller is serious about putting it up if he doesn't get his offer it might turn out to be a good deal on a local pickup if it goes to auction with a low start price.

Of course everyone and their mother will be looking at it as a parts buy.
