Peugeot ID Please!
An acquaintance of mine has a Peugot for sale. He says it's a PX10, but I'm skeptical. He removed the decals because they started peeling when he was cleaning it. He said they said "Reynolds 531 or something like that". I'm worried he's just trying to make the sale.
He bought the guy from some kid at UNT here in Denton for $75, maybe less. He then took the derailers off and did the uber-cheap single speed conversion by implementing the factory rear multispeed freewheel. He saved everything he took off for the future buyer. Now he wants $125. Thanks. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g.../peugeot_1.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g.../peugeot_2.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g.../peugeot_3.jpg |
More like nothing like that. Google PX10 and you will not see any similarities. This is an entry level Peugeot missing some key parts. Complete, reassembled, in pristine, ready to ride condition, it would be worth that price. In the current state, I would pass. Looks like a Carbolite 103 bike to me (high ten steel), something like a 1985 P8.

Looks like an '84 PH10L. It's not 531 but rather Carbolite 103. Not comparable. You could do a lot better for $125.
The gearing he chose is pretty useless for a single speed. I know you're in north Texas, but it's still pretty flat, right? |
That's what i thought. I had already googled the PX10, and seen the differences. He's a local bike flipper who mainly deals in vintage BMX... Anything to make the sale I guess. He knows damn well what that bike is. That's sad.
I've got plenty of nicer Japanese and English bikes. Was just looking for something interesting. Thanks for the honest help guys. |
PH10 versus PX10. What's an H or X between friends?

Your pictures are very fuzzy and it is hard to see any detail. That said, you might have a Peugeot UO7, perhaps referred to as a "Sport" also. I say this only because the decals seem to match. You can better judge by comparing these pictures to what you have.

II agree it could be a PH10, but t's definitely not a 531 frame. I should be Peugeot's "Carbolite 103" or "HLE" tubing, not as good as 531 tubing but very good "basic" bicycle frame tubing none the less.
The $125 price is a bit steep if this bike is not in mint/new condition (although it looks very clean, I think you can negotiate the price at just below or at 100 bucks to be more in line to what the bike is at the open market. Frankly, I think it could be worth more if the derailleurs and double crank rings were mounted back on the bike. JMO's Chombi |
