But those poor things love reckless youngsters to take them out for long rides until the sun disappears! Or flirt with modern female bicycles on the road! And between me and you, I have the feeling that female bicycles love tough, mature, fearless and experienced Italians! They hate the mamas boys that spent their whole life in their house!

We gotta get more Atala love in this thread! If Atala is the "Italian Schwinn," then this is an "Italian Paramount," right? ;-)
1971 Atala Competizione as posted before in its own thread. Home repainted, mostly 80s Japanese components. About 23# with the fenders and no expensive or weight-weenie parts.

I'm certainly no expert, but I would say it's chromo-velato, as the frame is chromed underneath the paint. The effect is difficult to catch photographically. I think I got the lighting just right in this shot. It looks totally different in photos taken in direct sunlight.

Well, it’s a De Rosa Replica 65 from a limited series that they built in the mid 90’s. The series included 3 versions, the Replica 57, theReplica 65 and the Replica 73. The decals and the paint are meant to evoke the bikes that Ugo De Rosa built for various teams and racers during those decades. I have read that De Rosa only built a total of 300 frames for the whole series (100 of each replica issue) and I believe that only one was available for each year of the issue. I think that the Replica 57 came out in 1995, the Replica 65 in 1996 and the Replica 73 in 1997.
Anyway, I remember reading about them in what may have been late 1994 in either an issue of Vello News or a catalog (Gita?) that came with my subscription and immediately falling in love. So cut to Seattle 2001 and while mucking about on-line I see that a bike shop in Arizona had an un-built Replica 65 frame and fork on sale. I called the guy and the next week I had the frame. I built it up with Chorus 9 speed and have been riding it ever since. It really is a dream to ride, like a rocket sled on rails. Although I have to admit that lately I’ve been commuting on an old Tom Ritchey mountain bike because putting a rack on my De Rosa is unthinkable and I got tired of carting work crap around in a messenger bag.

Here's my '87 Bianchi. Grand Compe brake calipers replace the stock Modolo Speedy's, and new Sun rims replacing the grey Ambrosio 19's.
(Probably the only bike I own with these new-fangled black-wall tires.

Just finished this '72 Cinelli SC. This one is a bit too big for me and I already have another '72 SC that is actually in better shape than this one so this one is probably going to get sold.
