S-10-S rebuild - Need input on decisions

Have to think this through fairly quickly or a window of opportunity may close.

Rebuilding an S-10-S 12-speed for personal use (fun). Have power coated the frame and installed a new geadset and a mustache handlebar. I have assembled a complete NOS Suntour Superbe group for the bike.

Probelm 1: Superbe RDs only accommodate 23 gears max. Most freewheels are 28 max nowadays. Do I go with the Superbe RD? If not, what do I replace it with?

Problem 2: Suntour rims/hubs are in great shape, spokes are toast. New wheel set (comparable) is $110. Rebuild is a little more. Go with the rebuild or buy new?

Bear, I'm running a 28 tooth 5 speed with Superbe on my '72 Fuji Newest without any problem.

Nice choice of components to dress up your S10-S, I'm building up a Finest with a Superbe group this winter. IF the hubs are Superbe's I'd have them rebuilt, especially if the rims are Ukais or Arayas.

Rims are Ukais but the hubs are Sunshine GyroMaster.

If your hubs and rims are good, rebuild with new spokes. Do it yourself, seriously, I mean it. It's fun. It's easy. It saves a lot of money. And you'll feel good about it. Get the spokes from ebay seller 'childhood dreams' for the best prices (or pm me, I know his email address).

You actually can throw a pair of 700C rims on that bike. It probably has Dia-Compe center-pulls. Just drop the brake pads down as low as they can go.

The vintage NOS brakes I have will not extend the 4mm.
