you could easily just go down the list of north american builders exhibiting at nahbs.
There are lots of talented framebuilders' wares on display at NAHBS, and one of my favorites is Dave Wages, the owner and sole framebuilder at Ellis Cycles. Dave won "Best of Show" at the 2010 NAHBS in Richmond, and his work is flawless. Here's a recent example. It's a polished Reynolds 953 stainless steel frameset. Note the clean brazing and lack of any file marks on the polished surfaces around the lug shorelines. He honed his skills at Serotta and Waterford before hanging out his shingle. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d7...Wages95306.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d7...ges95306-1.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d7.../Wages9533.jpg |

I'm watching this company like a hawk:
Signal Cycles http://signalcycles.com/ Their site is loaded with very attractive designs in many categories, including this one. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/...8e095904_b.jpg and this: http://signalcycles.com/blog/wp-cont...55e12a3991.jpg and this: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1306/...9411ab5a_z.jpg |
There's also this one-man operation in Brooklyn, NY: http://www.fastboycycles.com/
Very tragic story behind the builder, as well. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4134/...d13f8e7d_b.jpg http://www.fastboycycles.com/images/gallery/08/m1.jpg http://www.fastboycycles.com/images/gallery/08/G1.jpg http://www.fastboycycles.com/images/gallery/08/e1.jpg |

A bunch of other small-scale or custom builders might qualify: - Curt Goodrich (esp. the Randonneuse) - Hampsten (both classic road race designs and the Tournesol all-road designs) |
