That said though, since swapping the original hoods out to mundane white hoods is not necessarily your cup of tea, how about putting a set of Bordeaux Gold Hudz on them? Bordeaux Gold is essentially Hudz' copy of the C&V gum hood color. Not only would it look smashing with the white tape, it would be perfectly complimentary to the orange metallic frame. Convinced you to swap yet?

Only mounted photo I could find of the Bordeaux Gold hoods (https://store.handlebra.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1).

Aaron, in spite of the direction this thread has taken (sorry, sort of), I would leave the black hoods, and go with the white tape with black stitching. It will have a classy look. Finish it at the top with a thin line of black tape.

my advice: White tape never looks good with black hoods, but - with exception to multi-color fade or fluorescent colors - my rule of thumb is to match saddle and handlebar tape color.

I'm surprised - no double-butted spokes? I can't believe you need straight-gauge. I'm 185 and never found the need for anything stouter than 14/15/14.
That's a great build - not sure it's C&V, but a fine bike that will get up and go.

I'd put my Mondonico in that same category, a sexy (though more elegant, restrained, and mature) Italian, but I'm finding once built, there's very little maintenance. Those Campy Ergo-based groups stay in adjustment very well, once set.

It has DB spokes, not straight gauge.

Beautiful Bike Aron. not beign a huge fan of all the black components, parts and accesories the industry is shoving at us, I maust say I agree the Orange frame and black group really go well. I love the Chrome luggs they really show of the shape of the tubing.
how does it ride? or did I miss the review?

are those saddles comfortable? I know several members run them on italian bikes but they look like ass hatchets to me.
As for the bars and whatnot, I agree that saddle and bars and hoods should match, so in your case i suppose that would be black.
My favorite tape for any bike I plan to ride lots (which is most of my bikes) is leather, for what it's worth.
that thing will be burning up the valley forge trail

San Marco Regal? You've never ridden one?...You really should try it...classic looks, reasonable weight (especially with Ti rails), and decent comfort. I like them best for rides <50 miles but can go longer.

I was thinking of trying a Selle San Marco Rolls on my Colnago though since a brooks just doesnt seem right. Would you suggest a regal over one of those?

The Regals feel a LOT like Brooks Professionals to me...they just don't last as long and I don't think the quality of manufacture is equivalent. On the plus side, they're far lighter. I have the ti rails on this one and it's probably my lightest saddle...that's not saying much considering most of what I have are Brooks. They aren't ass hatchets, at least not for me, but I'd rather have a B-17 on a long ride.

Like Buldogge, they rock for me under 50 miles.
When something works, I stick with it.
Over 50, I go for Swifts and Swallows.
Swifts/Swallows are my favorites for longer distances.

WOW, this is one BAD looking bike. Not only is the orange beautiful, but it looks like a cheetah just waiting to gobble up some road. I can only imagine how much you are itching to get out on her - and cautious at the same time given the condition of the roads. I imagine it is nice to have that 'want to treat my best bike really nicely' feeling again?
Now how did you get that pump to match so perfectly? Was that special order or just amazing luck?
A dliemma on the aesthetics. If you hadn't said you intend to do a lot of mileage with her my vote would be with the suggestions of matching white saddle, tape, hoods, consitent with the decal outlines (possibly experimenting in the future with white cables). Given you plan to put a lot of road time on her though I think the practicality of black completely outweighs the aesthetic considerations. A bike like this, like most Italians, should always be well dressed, and I'd guess you'll be switching out tape and saddles much more often if they are white.
Personally I think a black saddle (perhaps another Regal?) on your current build would look great - lending understatement to a bike that already has a ton of (badass) presence.
No matter what you chose though that will still be an extraordinary bike.

Huge thanks for the elite cage suggestion!
Got the bottles and cages:
I think these are some good points. I went black and with gum-wall tires because I wanted the focus to be the frame, not the details...and I thought a white saddle just complimented it well. I think the odds are that I'll be playing with this a good bit...it has black housings because it came with them, which was another reason I went more subdued. Also, the parts were black. My pick for housings would have been white.
I think white finishing tape and hoods will be an excellent compromise and give some great contrasts.
The pump was a special surprise that Stefano found in Italy. I'm not sure if they got it in this color or if they painted it. Either way...what an awesome gentleman!

I like it. one bit of unsolicited advice, remove the Shimano off the pedals.
My question would be what was the suggested stem extension by Mannarti?
In times gone by, 100 mm was the typical designed length stem on a mid sized bike.
