New Year's in New England

Only one way to ring in the new year in central Maine:

Anyone else up here (besides Pastor Bob) go for a ride today?

Top, I thought that what's Maine looked like in July?

Happy New Year, I might get out a bit later in the day ..

Way to go, Top! I just got back from a 25-mile loop. It was amazingly warm out there (and very wet, too). I even snapped some pics at the turn-aound point:

I was on my '74 Norman Fay touring bike, and it was also the first ride for my new Acorn Boxy Rando bag. It felt terrific!

Okay, now I know that to do my January century, I need to repeat this loop four times. Woohoo!

Well, no road bike today took my (step through) another name for a girls bike LOL, out for a good ride down the fire/bog roads. Was out for 1 1/2 hrs and it was a tough ride (lot of water covered ice) very slippery. I'll tell you, it sure is nice having a (step through) on those roads in those conditions, the boys thanked me several times along the way LOL........

Guys, I almost went out for a ride in the 40F weather. Maybe tomorrow, since I'm off.

Instead I spent the afternoon in the basement restoring my daughter's, BF's, dad's '68 Raleigh Record.

It's an interesting bike, lighter than a Continental, but the quality of the finish is awful. He bought it new as a 13 year old. Said he rode it from New Haven, CT to Boston once. That must have been an interesting trip.

Have you created a thread for the Norman Fay? Great looking bike.

Yup, when I first built it up a while back. I was very lucky to hear from Harry Lavery, the fellow who built the bike, in that thread:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...h-Touring-Bike

Since taking those pics, I had VeloCals create a set of replacement decals. It's a terrific ride and handles perfectly with a front load. I also have a go-fast Norman Fay from the same year--another terrific rider.

Ok, some pictures.

Looking across frozen Little Lake Sunapee to Mount Sunapee Ski area (about 7 miles away).

About 2 miles further up the road (near the Stump Dump) a few minutes later, the sunset over Little Lake Sunapee!

Zoomed in.
