lol...you think bikesdirect would carry this line? ;)

A nice green frame with the "BoughtaChia" brand. Chia Pet headbadge, of course.

Ooo, close! - but it should be the "Carry Fisher" porteur bike!

If anyone tried to reproduce my creations they'd all be Genuine and NOT Counterfeit.

The Ersatz would be the time trial model (made from Columbus Air tubing).

I like that seypat! I was going to use Frottecchia with Dr. J as the headbadge.

Some others:

Didley in Ridley font...a guitar as headbadge.
Tree Spirit
Toga Miyata - Bluto as headbadge
Batouttahelluvas - meatloaf as headbadge
Rook - in Look font...castle as headbadge
Shreck
in Centurion font...Octogenarian, Iron lung model
Univegas - Elvis as headbadge

I don't like the idea of misrepresenting frames because you never know where it will end up. However, when I was in college, couple of the local guys made up some of their own decals, using some Italian name from a Marx Brothers movie. They had quite the laugh leading others on about what unique and rare bikes they had.

Chicolini or Ravelli?

P.S.: The last two pages of this thread have contained some of the funniest stuff I've read here on C&V in a long time.

It's good this thread took a turn for the better and everyone is getting some laughs out of it.

What was wrong with it before? It was almost exactly what you requested.

Presumably you were interested in understanding some of the range of viewpoints on the matter; in my post for example, where I said many folks would think you a wanker, the point wasn't to call you a wanker, but merely to fulfil your request by trying to explain another perspective.

While that sort of subject matter may be less entertaining than the last couple of pages for many, given that so many folks put in the effort to deliver what you asked for, it seems a little off for the OP to state the thread going OT is an improvement...

KonAaron Snake 01-11-11 06:59 AM

Thank you gentlemen. When I get bored at work, I'll try and come up with some more.

KonAaron Snake 01-11-11 07:08 AM

Maybe the most fitting one yet...in the Hutch font - Crutch.
Scott font - Snott...head badge is Paris Hilton
In Redline font...the Redwine
In Ross font...the Gloss...headbadge is Brett Michaels
This one is a bit geeky, but in Kona font...Rona....headbadge is a calculator

I've now developed an entire line of Schwinngs...

At the top of the line up...the Paradox
The Epilogue
The Hempo (headbadge is The Dude, or maybe Cheech Marin)
The Continental Drift
and the Varsity now comes in two models...the kids version, the Junior Varsity and for adults, the Varsity Blues

seypat 01-11-11 07:42 AM

Who said the thread is going off topic? Maybe, just maybe all of these goofy responses are examples of what the Schwinn would be if you put other bike brand labels on it!

It just goes to show what a snobbish community riders can be when they care SO MUCH about what OTHER people are riding and what colors they want to paint them and what letters are put on them.

Really, that's pretty sad.

-holiday76 01-11-11 07:56 AM

you guys lost me with your lame jokes ( :) ), however, here's some random thoughts for you:

- my favorite kind of build is one that is a blank slate. That is to say, i can do whatever i want with it and not feel bad. There are no rules. That said, I tend to use characteristics of other bikes as inspiration rather than straight up copying them. Straight up copying is tacky. So in other words, 60's Bianchi decals on an 80's Bianchi might be ok. When you can look at a bike and know it was inspired by something that is cool. However, straight up plagiarism, well that just takes no imagination whatsoever.

- brand switching is also tacky. If it's a joke, OK , I get it. If it's to make you or someone else feel/think it's genuine, I get that too, and it's tacky.

- Personally, i've always hated personalizing my belongings with text or images. To me it just felt cheesy, in line with putting bumper stickers on your car. Ew.

Now my disclaimer: i don't care what anyone else does with their stuff. This shat is jus my opinion..man.

Oh and, if I get another vision of Robbie licking a cat I'm going to be permanently scared.

Amesja, unfortunately that is exactly what the OP is conveying with his question. By the way, if it is not important to you then why do you have the bikes you own listed in your signature. Do we really need to know about them?

Good question!

Because it helps sometimes when asking questions/getting help with tech issues. And it serves as a pretty good bookmarker to people who read a forum to understand where I (and other posters) are coming from when reading what is above the signature line.

I like it when people put down a little information about themselves when I'm reading what they have to say -it helps to decide how many grains of salt have to be taken with their statements. So I suppose it helps others make a decision about what I am saying too. I'm making a statement -probably just that I'm a retro-grouch.

Well I certainly can't argue with that answer. Except to ask if your bikes are original. I'm guessing that since it is not important to you then your bikes are all Franken bikes with lots of different updated and improved parts on them. Would I be right? If I'm not and they are mostly original then what others think are somewhat important to you. And if they are Frankenbikes, then the sig listings are not very helpful now are they?

-holiday76 01-11-11 09:19 AM

i put my bikes in my sig to brag. Impressed?

No, but I might be if you had better bikes :D

I feel no shame about showing some of my bikes off...I put a lot of time into them. I put a lot of time into making deals that allowed me to afford them. I spent 89-92 as a wannabee racer on lower end stuff...drooling over De Rosas and Merlin and the like. Now that I have em' (but can't ride em' like I used to), yeah...I take pride in them.

Another good question. Mostly my bikes are both as original as I can make them AND heavily modified if they have any real vintage value. That is, I haven't done any irrevocable mods/ and I have all the original parts. You can look in my profile page to see a few pics if you want more information on them. I did repaint the Vista purple -but only because the original yellow paint was so oxidized that you could hardly tell it was yellow any more. It needed a repaint anyhow so the purple paint doesn't drew it any more than it was already messed up. A skilled painter/restorer wouldn't be any further behind the way it is now and at least the bike is ridable rather than actively rusting away like it was before the repaint. The badging of the Ross was long gone before I got to it -the reflective tape I added can be easily removed with some acetone or xylene as the chrome is impervious.

But if someone WANTED to drew their classic/vintage bikes irrevocably I'm fine with that too -as long as it was their own personal property. Make them into a sculpture by welding multiple one-of-a-kind vintage collectible frames together so that it looks like a mechwarrior robot for all I care. Sad, but their right. I believe in private property rights and personal freedom. If you have the money you can light cigars with $100 bills for all I care. It should be a free world.

Just because something is not for me doesn't mean that I can't acknowledge someone else's right to do what they want with their own bikes.

Maybe I'm a retro-grouch -but I'm open-minded about other people with stupid ideas ;)

-holiday76 01-11-11 09:39 AM

you're in a bike forum full of a bunch of people who look at (and sometimes) ride bikes. Of course they're going to want to show them off.

Looking for the post where anyone told him he wasn't free to do something. He asked for opinions...he got them.

A lot of people seem to get confused by what freedom means. Freedom doesn't mean no one gets to judge you about something. Freedom doesn't mean the community has to accept you. Freedom means we don't get the right to oppress you for it by throwing you in prison...or by not hiring you if you're a protected class. It doesn't mean we have to go out for beers with you.

By the way...destroying currency IS illegal.

-holiday76 01-11-11 09:41 AM

I wonder how long until this thread gets locked up?

seypat 01-11-11 10:03 AM

If I had the stables that some of you do you better believe they would be listed! Along with the links where people could oogle!

That is the the whole point of this thread and the goofiness/fun that is being sent the OP's way. If he didn't care what others had thought he would not have asked the question. Note that he did not want to badge down. He has the right to do whatever he/she wants but he has to accept what comes with it. In his instance he wasn't trying to make a humorous example like the ones that are listed here. If he would have done that he would have probably gotten nothing but positive responses. But he was trying to make a ..... into a .......(use your own words). Unfortunately for him a ..... is NOT a .....(again use your own words) and never will be. He asked for an opinion and got one.

Now I'm heading to the Classic Rendezvous site to get some more ideas for goofy bike brand takeoffs. This thread has actually been a breath of fresh air away from all of the technical(but very good) threads that I am usually looking at. At least for me.
