Need help ID'ing this Bianchi, I can see the Columbus tubing sticker on the seat tube, owner says it's made in Italy, Shimano 600 components.

WOW that is tiny! it appears to be a '85 limited. I'll double check later but that looks like a "Special" tubing decal which pretty much means '85. could be an '86 but I'll check to be sure

Assuming he's right about the era, the serial number should be on the head lug and is decypherable.

Thank you Bianchigirll and T Mar. The S/N is indeed at the top of the upper head lug. What I'm trying to determine is whether, from the S/N, one may determine the year of manufacture. Thanks again for your replies.

Yes, the year can be determined from the serial number, provided it is actually late 1960s or early 1970s.

I have a Bianchi San Jose from a few years back. The serial number on the bottom bracket is painted over for the most part; I'm having trouble reading it. It looks like it starts with H7 and ends with RS, with several characters in between.

Do the Bianchi-Serial-Number experts here have any advice?

That would make it a 1972, assuming you're right about the genral era.

Bianchi 55cm c-t-c, serial "3.M 710", celeste w/ blue letters, 6-speed, Campy Nuovo Gran Sport, Modolo Sporting brakes, Bianchi branded crankset 51/42, SR Sakae Modolo handlebars celeste vinyl tape, Weinmann rims w/ Sachs hubs, Impero pump, velvety (?) Bianchi saddle, made in Italy and Paggio stickers. Stem (and probably brake levers dark grey) not original. I guess 1983 Nuovo Racing? Looking for original stem too.

An old friend saw a Toronto neighbour carry this bike (minus wheels) to the curbside trash for pickup! It had hardly been breathed on in its lifetime. I coveted it when I saw it, buddy gave it to me, and I now enjoy riding it in British Columbian orchard lands.

Deets: 'Made in Italy' sticker on downtube near BB; Bianchi Special Columbus tubing (which is what, exactly?)
Number stamped on the BB is cryptically short: B.231. On the opposite side is 59, which has got to be the frame size.

Hello welcome to the forums. great looking Bianchi, your bikes up in the great white north are a bit different than ours down here. it looks to me like a '85 or '86ish maybe a Vittoria model.

Thank you Bianchigirll -- but with 13 of 'em in your stable, you might just be a little prejudiced towards Bianchis. Hmmm, with 13 bikes in your life, is that vehicle in the photo beside your name your "toy hauler"? That's what the local sledheads (snowmobilers) and HD-carting biker wannabes call their trailers...

Time to post up my latest Bianchi acquisition. 198? Volpe. I found this last month on CL. It had been tossed around a garage not being ridden for at least a decade. I probably paid way too much considering the work that it needed but I have a serious sentimental issue with 80's Bianchis so I had to have it. I put on some new parts that I had to make it a bit more comfortable including tires, seat, stem, bars, and brakes levers/cables. I spent another $150 at the LBS tuning, cleaning, and replacing more stuff. I added fenders and lights so that I can stay safe and dry in the crappy Oregon rain until I move.

Serial number is DS754527. Bottom bracket measures 68mm so if I'm not mistaken that makes it a Japanese bike. 27" wheels (stickers are worn off) with Phil Wood hubs. The triple is a 28-46-52. The freewheel was a 6 speed 11-30 but it was worn so it was swapped with a 7 speed 13-28. Brakes are Shimano cantilever. Rear derailleur was knackered so a Shimano Alivio was installed. Once I sort out the pedals this will be my commuter/training/century ride. Anybody care to take a stab at the year or know anything about the story of the early Volpe?

the Volpe model started in '86 as a sort of Jack of All Trades. it was not meant to be a tourer, road bike nor a full on cross. the idea was a bike you could use as a recreational bike or commuter, light touring, made take a dirt road shortcut once in a while. I read some Bianchi propoganda where they consider it the original hybrid. (which of course they invented in '89 with the Advantage)

I believe it to be a '93 or 4 but pics would certainly help

I picked this up off Craigslist last week. All I know about the Squadra is what I've read here and elsewhere on the internet. Helpful, but seeing as how it is not the most popular or sought after model the amount of information is not that abundant. I'd appreciate any info I can get.

I'm not sure if this thread is the place but I'm curious about those hub oilers. I've never seen anything like that. How are they used? I would also like to know how to remove this particular freewheel or cassette. My Park FR-1 tool slips in snugly but the freewheel isn't breaking loose.
