the Supetset 2 sticker refers to the fact that all Bianchis are built with a "super set design" heavier downtube and chainstays then the rest of the tubing set and on the "2" means that the down tube is actually ovalized as it nears the bottom bracket to create an even stiffer frame.

Not sure where it was made, other than it's not Italian, but both the serial number and steerer stamps indicate a 1989.

The moment I saw the serial number I thought it was a 1985 Japanese model. But then I saw the Unicrown fork and noticed the Exage & Sport LX components and 7 cogs. That all points to something a bit later or something put through a blender.

What's up with the serial numbers? I have what I believe to be a '93. It is a 59cm Reparto Corse. Serial # 59C392. Columbus EL over size with internal cable routing, ovalized downtube at the bottom bracket, drop outs are stamped "Bianchi". I am looking forward to building it up, but I am short on the cash to do so. I am not sure what the componets were originally, but it does have a Shimano bottom bracket installed.

I would agree with 1993. Bianchi have several serial number formats because they were such a large brand and used so many different frame manufacturers. First there was Reparto Course, then the main factory for the mid-range and entry level models and then numerous Japan and Taiwanese manufacturers after Italian manufacturing got too expensive for the entry and mid-range models.

As for components, there was a 1993 EL model with C-Record.

Assuming you're accurate with the calipers and the slot isn't pinched, giving an undersize reading, it's something less than mid-range. The mid-range models with Cromor or SL main frames typically use 27.2mm posts. An Aelle frame would use a 26.4mm post so that's a possibility but given it's an Asian frame, Columbus tubes would be unlikely. Most likely, it's something along the lines of a Sport SX with a Tange 1000 main frame, which has a seat tube inner diameter of 26.6mm and would use a 26.4mm post. I don't think pictures would help in this case, given that it has been stripped of decals and paint.

Hello Tmar do you have a pic of that ,93 EL OS with C-Rec? I had thought Campagnolo moved on to Ergo 8spd by then but I could be wrong

I have just bought Bianchi tour. It is medium blue with forks that are half chrome. Ser is 1s18970

I have looked around to find out more. It says made in Japan but I don't know what year. Can anyone offer assistance. I want to restore to period.

Hello do you havea pic? a red Veloce is around a '96-98 it depends on the shade of red, decal style and finer differences in the Veloce components.

I found this forum thru a google search on my new/old bike. I recently recieved a abandoned Bianchi which I am restoring. After reading the stuff here I think it may be pretty much original, if only because all the componennts come up as being roughly the same vintage. The bike sat for at least 5 years, maybe a lot longer.
I THINK it may be a mid 90s but the fully lugged frame makes me think it is early 90s. Regardless, it is in good shape so I am going to rebuild it as is and put it on the road for a while before making any changes.

The vitals are:

Bianchi Axis sn ES059524
Black frame with blue decals
Fully lugged “Superset II” & “Tange Cro Mo” frame with rack mount points on seat stays and integral pump location behind head tube.
Head tube has a bird crest decal and small “made in Japan” sticker at the top
“Cross Terra” sticker on left chain stay

Forks look more like MTB style, has Bianchi stickers that say “Unicrown” & “Tange Cro Mo”. Fork has front fender lugs at the bottom.

I would be interested in nailing down the exact year, and if these are indeed all the original bits and pieces I will probobly just try to keep it in good condition, or at least keep the parts I remove. Since the bike was free I am not really inclined to sell it, even if it was worth a bit, but I do want to maintin its value. Doing a full disassemble and clean now, waiting for my tires to come in the mail.

Yup, thats it.
The tires came off in pieces and I am replacing with some Kendas for now. Also, the tape was shot and I bought red but otherwise I think it may have been bone stock. Most everything looks to be reusable except for corrosion on the wheel quick release levers / nuts. I have some other ones for now but will keep my eyes open for some good orig Suntours. Doing as much as possible on a $0 budget. The good thinn about that is you tend to recondition and resue as opposed to replacing OEM bits.

I can not tell from the pic, but it looks like the saddle is an Avocet. The one on there now is an Avocet Gelflex C20 seat. Was that stock too?

I have a 1985 with the serial A343 (and a separate
number 4) stamped on the bb shell. Its a 57
The frame isn't named as such but is one model down
from the centenario, hope this helps anybody
trying to date a similar frame

A co-worker has a Bianchi roadbike, doesn't know what model the bike is. He got it as a frameset and repainted it several/many years ago and put on a Bianchi decal set he got from somewhere. Rear spacing is 126mm and the frame is about 62cm ctc.

There is a number on the bottom bracket: CS26952.

Any idea what year it might be from? Also, what specific details should I look at to help identify it further?

And, sorry, no pics yet. I'll post some if/when I can.

Thanks for any input. He currently has it built up with a mix of parts, 6 speed on back, triple on front, Campy hubs, tubular rims, SunTour shifter arms on the downtube, Shimano derailleurs, 3TTT stem, whatever he could find at the time to make it ridable.

check for the type of dropouts, Campi, GPM, Suntour, also (if orginal) the fork ends. is there any engraving on the frok crown or seat stay caps? since it was repainted and built with 'spare' parts they are not much help. OH is the BB english or Italian?

This one is a Japanese, 1982 model. Non-OEM, eclectic component mix makes model identification tenous without pics. What is seat post diameter? Integral derailleur hanger on rear dropout? Any fittings brazed onto the frame, like shifter bosses, bottle bosses, top tube cable tunnels (as opposed to stops?

It has a Campy headset which he believes is original. The BB is one he bought and doesn't recall any issues finding one to fit. Has Bianchi or a B in various places etched/stamped/pantographed into the metal. Has a rear hanger. Not sure what make the dropouts are but the rear are forged. Seatpost was set in deep with no saddle on the bike, eyeball guess would be close to the diameter on my Centurian or Colnago, bigger than the older Schwinns at least, and I suspect it's a fluted seatpost. There was at least one set of water bottle brazeons. I don't recall what the cable routing or stops were like.

I'll have to wait for the rest of the answers until I see it again, possibly Friday.

Here is a data point on a Bianchi I am in the process of acquiring:

SN: A404761 (the 0 is hard to read - could be a D, or maybe an 8 or 9)

- no tubing sticker
- oversized/ovalized downtube
- I'm told it's a 1990s bike
- silver metallic paint
