New website from Hilary Stone--lots of C&V for sale and oogle

Hilary Stone of the UK outed his new website on the CR list:

http://hilarystone.com/index.html

He always finds the most remarkable UK steel and no longer sells on eBay, I believe. Wallets beware!

Great resource, Neal. Thanks. My wallet is quietly trying to sneak away from my grasp.

wahoonc 01-08-11 10:29 AM

WOW!...and my wallet is completely tapped out. Anybody want to buy my truck?:p

Aaron :)

Not at the moment, but he seems to continually find amazing stuff!

Nothing my size that I am interested in ATM. I'm sure that will change.

He has always had some great old British frames, but the cost of shipping is prohibitive.

Oogle?

Prohibitive is a relative term. If he had my grail bike/frame, I would cough it up.

+1
90gbp/@150usd for shipping is nbd fr the right frameset, imo.

I guess I'm not serious enough about bikes to spend that kind of money on a frameset.

Great. A whole bunch of things are around my size :(

I did grow up in the UK. Perhaps it's time for a visit home? :P

I just took a look at some of his bikes, and I have to disagree...there are some GREAT deals on there.

One is a grail bike...a De Rosa signature, and of course in my size, at a reasonable number. I can taste it, but the timing is wrong.

Grand Bois 01-08-11 05:07 PM

With whom are you disagreeing?

The wallet pain. I'd argue those prices are wallet friendly (relatively). I know that comment wasn't meant in the sense of overpriced.

What a treasure trove.

How 'bout these:

I have no interest in Italian road bikes, but I like the Ganna city bike.

I bought my chrome Record triple and my Sturmey Archer 5 speed from him.

Thanks Neal...I just had to buy the Williams B100 crankarms. Sweet!

I had a bad experience with hilary stone.

I ordered a stronglight headset that was listed as NOS/NIB. Well, a couple pieces were missing. I emailed hilary stone and asked if he just happened to have the parts hidden somewhere or spares I could have...and, if not, if I could exchange it for something else. Hilary straight up ignored my emails and never responded. He was extremely quick to respond to my questions before I sent payment, though.

Thank you reasonable, not mortgaging the farm guy, you party pooper you. If there were more people like you in the world, bikes might be reasonably priced. And who would want that?

javal 01-09-11 03:13 AM

Great stuff! The extremely cool freschia womens bike would go well with my daughter! She´s not into grails though...:)

Thanks to Neal for outing my new website here and he;s correct I don't do Ebay anymore. My apologies to TimeTravel_0 for not sending the missing spacer- it completely slipped my mine - if he could send me his address I'll forward him a suitable spacer. I've just been to the Manchester cyclejumble here in the UK – its one of the biggest – and have come back with a lot of goodies that will be uploaded over the following weeks. Included is a late 70s NOS Raleigh Carlton Professional (this will be a week or two in being added), a Raleigh Ilkeston lo-pro that was built for Beryl Burton, a NOS Constrictor brake from the 1920s, Shimano Dura-Ace AX chainset and pedals, Campag framebuilding tools and more...

Kinda my thought. He has had things I would've loved to buy... Prices themselves seem fair.

Hilarystone 01-10-11 02:46 PM

Have just uploaded the Raleigh Ilkeston lopro that belonged to Beryl Burton and couple of excellent frames – a gorgeous eayly 70s Ron Cooper and a stunning 90s Columbus EL Chas Roberts... There will be more parts later this week...
