That's very nice. Is it one of the NOS boxed bikes that came out of the closed dealership recently somewhere down south?

It was already built up (I believed used as a show bike). But yep, you are correct. Picked it up months ago.

Very nice! Lots of SS's lately. I'd rather have the color scheme of the '87 but I couldn't fine one by the time I pulled the trigger on the '86.

Very nice. Been looking for one of those in the next larger size -23"- for quite some time.
Looks to be in excellent condition.

Very nice, don't see them in that color as often. I love the Prologue... such a nice bike, many consider it to be #2 behind only the Paramount, and for a fraction the price.

I want to freshen up my 85. After seeing this bike with the yellow tape,I'm inspired.

Why thank you and glad to hear your inspired. This bike has been a real pleasure to ride. I had no idea these mid-80s Tenax-tubed Schwinns were so quick and responsive. It's been my main ride for the 12-week MS150 training series I'm in and it gets a lot of comments. Don't know what it is about classic Schwinns but I ride the series with a guy who rides a very nice 1972 Mercian and wouldn't you know, the Tempo gets the attention.

I look forward to seeing the results of your freshening.

Bought this freshly painted 88 Premis frame and fork from ebay. Used mostly parts I had on hand or bought NOS:

built wheels with NOS Shimano 6207 hubs and new Open Pro rims
Technomic stem; Salsa bars
new Shimano Claris triple crankset
NOS Suntour Sprint friction shifters
Sachs New Success long cage rear derailleur
NOS Suntour triple front derailleur
original seatpost
new Fizik Aliante saddle
NOS Suntour Superbe caliplers; new Tektro levers
NOS Shimano 105 headset

It's an anonymous looking bike since it doesn't have decals, and it has a complete mashup of parts. But it is such a smooth-riding bike, and beautiful to me. I am riding it as much as my Serotta titanium bikes.

It took a while to take photos but here's my repainted and re-decaled Traveler. I went with sort of Kogswellian color scheme, beige with black components and had the decals made to match the original fonts but with two colors instead of one. By luck, Nashbar had Brooks bar tape on sale that matched almost perfectly.

Thanks. It's a 1990 (close enough to late 80s). Originally it was blue with white decals on the top tube and seat tube but the vinyl decals I had made kept scraping on my bike rack. So I put another set on the downtube instead, which is where the decals were on earlier models anyway.

Here's my 1989 25" Prelude, updated with a Shimergo Mix of Veloce, Tiagra, 600 Tricolor, and Dura-Ace 7700. Wheels are DA7700 to Open Pros. It's smooth and stable without being sluggish. I like it; I wish it were a 24" but Schwinn skipped from 23 to 25 on any bike below their top 3.

Love the colors! Are the brakes red and blue to match the frame?!

Yes, the rear brake is anodized an aqua blue and the front is red. They're Taiwan knockoffs of the Campy skeleton brake. I stumbled across them as a set on Ebay but the colors were reversed. I swapped the center bolts and all was fixed. I had plans for red and blue rims as well but the cost was more than I was willing to expend on this project.

Beautifully understated this one. I have the red version of this frameset waiting to be built with DA7400 also. I'll be happy if mine turns out half as nice.

This is my 87 Prelude, all original other than tires & tape. First pic is from our first ride the weekend I got her.

Last pic - Updated photo of her. I went with everyone's recommendations for trying a compact bar and the Tektro RL341 brake levers. Worked out great! I put on a white Selle Italia Diva saddle and Deda light gray tape - switching around the white and gray points from the original pic. Ill be replacing the adaptor and stem with a normal silver stem and a silver 26.0 Soma HWY 1 bar soon.

I noticed behind the seat stay on the seat tube there is an imprinted "7" on the left side (as pictured). Iv tried searching for what it refers to with no luck. Is it possibly for the year? Do they all have these imprints?

If I were to take a guess at the "7" imprint, I'd say it's a blemish that occurred during brazing that just happens to look like a number. Purely speculative on my part. There are others here more informed on the manufacturing process. Here are a couple photos of the same spot on my bike for comparison:

This is my 87 Prelude, all original other than tires & bar tape. Im still working out the fit and still need to deep clean & polish her.
I got her a few weeks ago now, I think. I found her on CL - After searching for a few months for a road bike in my size and budget with no luck, I posted a wanted ad that, in short, was asking for a vintage diamond framed bike around 48-50cm with an offer of $125. Right after posting it I decided to check the CL bike ads one more time for the night...3rd down the list was this just posted 87 Prelude, 49cm, for $125! I had her in my hands 30 minutes later lol From what iv seen in my area, the smaller the frame gets, the higher the price gets. I see many larger framed bikes going for $50-$100 all the time!

I need to change the computer wire placement. It all looks awful lol I just slapped it on there real quick before heading out with my son.
