I hope you don't mind me going off topic since you've solved your problem now. Does anyone know what kind of wiring is used for bike computers? I would love to route my bike computer this way and avoid the ugly fork wire, etc. If it's just a simple one strand wire or something I wouldn't be too worried about cutting it and reattaching in order to get it through the holes.
Most bike computers use coaxial wire that's relatively tough to strip and solder properly. It's very light and since you're dealing with one conductor around the insulation of the other, it's tough to keep them isolated. It can be done, though. I had the best luck with the old Avocet computers- they used two parallel conductors in their wire.

If you need to extend the wires or make a separable joint, shop at R/C model airplane suppliers. They have very fine wire and special connectors.

Some mid weight nylon fishing line worked for me when I fished the wires for my Avocet 20 computer through my PSV's right front fork leg in the mid 80's
It took a little bit of time, but I just fed the fishing line down from the top brazing hole near the crown, downwards to the bottom one and just moved it around keeping note how much line I fed down already so I have an idea how far down it is in the leg. As it funnels down to such a small space down there, it just eventually went through the brazing vent hole and I pulled it through. I then taped the sensor wire to the fishing line and pulled it through. I was so happy as I did not have to see messy wires going down my fork leg anymore and I did not see anyone else with the setup back then.

Yep, that's the gist of it, but there was no way any line I fed through would manage to exit the vent hole, no matter how much wiggling around I did.

I do like the idea of doing this for a computer, as well. I may consider doing this on one of my other bikes...
