Hi,
I am looking for more information about a Legnano bicycle from the early sixties called the super sport. I know it is not one of the top models, but i would like to know where it fell in the product line. It has a campy gransport drivetrain, campy hubs (tipo?), universal centerpulls, and magistroni crankset with the customary green finnish and polished lug work. It feels too light and rides too nice for a gaspipe bike so imagine it is chromo but any ideas what kind???? any and all info is appreciated.

Given the era, there's a good chance it's Falck tubing. What's the seat post diameter?

Here is a link to a Catch of the day part II (dos) thread I have about a Legnano Super Sport I picked up a few years back. Post # 1744 about 3/4 of the way down the page. Lots of comments about it so read on down from there. Can you include some photos of yours?

I wasn't able to find any definitive info about the frame tubing (thanks for that Falck tubing tidbit T-Mar!) and there is practically nothing online about this lower model aside from it just being mentioned. Good luck with yours freemanelli and welcome to BikeForums!

ok, the fork was a little off-center so i am getting the fork straightened on the bike and will pick it up tomorrow to get seat post diameter.

I have been told that my early 60's Legnano Tipo Roma was made from Falck steel tubing.

the seatpost diameter is 26.4 and i pushed the seatpost down as far as it would go -about 4 inches or so- without hitting anything so i guess it is not reamed out? Thanks for the all the info. so far!

Given the post diameter, Falck is the most likely candidate. Based on references in old Italian literature, it appears to have been the most common tubing for mid-range Italian bicycles, prior to Columbus' introduction of Aelle. Legnano was a known user of Falck and I've always considered by circa 1961 Legnano Gran Premio, which uses a 26.4mm post, to be made from Falck tubing.

Thanks T-mar. I have never been a member here until recently, but I have scoured your posts about gitanes and the tdfs for priceless information. Does anyone out there have any legnano catalog scans from the early 60s? I have done some searching but have come up empty for scans of the mid-range legnanos.
