Post this in the Classic & Vintage forum. You'll have a better chance of finding out there.

Turn the saddle over and look at the underside near the back. Should be 3 digits and/or letters. Write them down and then go to the Brooks website and ask them when it was made. They also have a blog that you can access.

Otherwise, post your results on the C&V forum and see if anyone can tell you. I love the Brooks saddles I have, but I am not expert in the date codes.

brookssaddles.com

Only thing I could find was in the registration page, and that is that the sequence is number/letter/number

My most recent purchase was a black B17 Standard and is marked 1 G 0. Bought it last year, but don't know how long it was on the shelf.

I would say yours is considerably older possibly. The nameplate on the rear of yours is quite different from mine. The shape is different and the script is different.

That particular script was used, IIRC, when Derby owned Brooks. This was about 1987.

Also look at cudak888's site for more info on badge styles.

https://www.jaysmarine.com/brooksbadges.html

I think this style badge is more 1990s than something older. The new badges seem to mimic what was used in the '60s & '70s.

This is a NOS B5N I have. I'll check the date.

This is the same logo Professional seen on cudak888's site. I traded it to him.

@ dsboy. Any chance you can measure the thickness of the leather? Modern Brooks have a thickness of 5 mm.

That's all true, Roth! I've tried all sorts of vintage hair remedies to get that stuff out of my hair, and nothing works. But I'm not gonna buy anything new ...

That saddle is a little special - the script on the top should say something like "Pre-Softened," a Brooks attempt to imitate the Ideale de Rebour treatment, and to advertise "Brookses are not hard and uncomfortable." Personally (as a Brooks fan) I don't think it made much difference, but it does help suggest the saddle is '80s. How that relates to the underside code, I don't know. I guess it could be 4th quarter of 1990.

Looks like a Sturmey Archer era badge (early 90s?):

Mine has no date code.

Despite what you've heard, this won't work on a single or fixed type bike, the threading is all wrong.
