Mystery Tricolor SPECIALIZED (pic inside)

Anyone ?

http://img1.classistatic.com/cps/kj/...002367_20.jpeg

i'm going to pick it up but i'm just impatient. it is a very good price.

seller says it's a specialized geared in shimano, but nothing else.
I see a possible dura-ace der, but could also simply be a shimano sis
cranks are 600 or higher it seems.
calipers ressemble dura-ace 7400 but impossible for me to tell for sure.
levers... looks like a replacement but they are def. older dura-ace ax ?
is the saddle a rolls ?

anyway there are several hints (tri-bars, tight rear clearance, low gear range, front radial spoking) point at something high-end IMHO... we'll see.

bloom87 01-31-11 01:49 PM

for the moment my best guess is a specialized allez team (:

THEJAPINO 01-31-11 02:07 PM

Saddle looks like a super turbo

bloom87 01-31-11 03:44 PM

Well... YES. Finally I had a good deal on something. $100.

The frame is even my size..
What more to ask ?

Campy DOs, Columbus tubes (which?)
Full Dura-Ace 7400 (AX levers and light action levers, though...)
Good guess the saddle is a Super Turbo
The seat post is Deore XT (why?)
Cinelli Campione bars
Wheels are both Wolber Profil TX on Mavic (501?)
A pump, a spare tube, tire levers, a saddle bag and scott tri-bars.
LOOK carbon pedals with associated NIKE shoes (too bad they're too small)
A Cateye cycle processor

Can someone help me ID this ? the bike was a triathlete's and sponsorized so there are no original stickers except Specialized designed in the USA...

abarth 01-31-11 04:13 PM

If it is a Specialized Allez with Campy DO, then you probably got a 3rensho made Allez. Take a picture of the fork crown from the side and post it here.

I am very unsure of the tubing used...
all I can reach is a RIVER... in a diagonal band ... and it's a columbus sticker with a gold background

bloom87 01-31-11 05:17 PM

my bike fails without question the "3rensho" test here...
http://vintage3rensholove.blogspot.c...sho-built.html

std crown, normal lugs, no allez signs...

but... that « standard build » has campy DOs and columbus that isn't tretubi...
kind of high standards if you ask me. did specialized outsource to italy or something? "columbus specialized allez" doesn't give any good results on google.

in trying to narrow down date, model and tubing...
- the SIS sticker on the stays makes it a post-1983 bike

abarth 01-31-11 05:35 PM

Then it is probably a Team Allez built by Dave Tecsh in 87. Are you sure it is a Specialized? Any Specialized panto on the frame?

bloom87 01-31-11 05:51 PM

No Specialized panto that I can see ... only 2 stickers about it being designed in the USA, and the rest of the stickers are the original owner's (a triathlete's) sponsors. one of them states "sun valley idaho"...

There are several similarities with this tesch-built allez team, comparing the details. the lugs are the same for instance. but the back brake bridge for instance is different, as is the pump hold on the head tube (spherical here, not conical). the BB shell seems to be the same but I have an aluminum VITUS cable runner... there is also a braze-on for the der, which isn't clamped on my bike. the DOs look to be shimano on that bike, whereas they are campy on mine..

bloom87 01-31-11 06:17 PM

i think i can narrow it down to 1985 - 1988, because that's what velobase states as period for dura-ace 7400 specing.

mazdaspeed 01-31-11 06:18 PM

great score

triplebutted 01-31-11 06:30 PM

The 80's was an eff'ed up time wasn't it. My friend used to race on a bike that was about as loud as that with a pair of Oakley Cyclops sunglasses.

WNG 01-31-11 07:30 PM

+1 a great score, nice bike. But I'll go out on a limb to state this is not an Allez.
What's the BB threading and size? If it's Italian, I suspect it to be some unknown Italian make.

bloom87 01-31-11 07:58 PM

Did Specialized make models for triathlon ?

BB shell is 68mm wide.

TL179 01-31-11 07:59 PM

Hey, its Me. Nice bike man, you deserve that score after sticking it out on the raleigh.

I was going to say non-3 rensho allez as well but I guess not.

Any chance you're going to ditch those pedals? The Luongo is calling

RIVERNICATO is the default decal for re-sprayed frames.

I guess I'll never know. SL? SLX?

I just saw a tiny stamped code on the brake bridge's cube.

realestvin7 02-04-11 02:28 AM

Any more on this? Great score!

TL179 02-07-11 09:38 AM

have you removed the fork or bb yet?bb threading and any info stamped on the steer tube will tell a lot
