Nice!

One or two pop up on CL here every summer--I was out of town and missed one in September; I missed another one because I couldn't scrape up the cash in time. I got lucky with Twenties last year; one of these times I'll get lucky with a bronze green Superbe...

Then again, I have a GH6 to lace into a wheel, and I have an S5 hub, too, so I suppose my Black
'73 Sports will be close enough.

Yes, this is the "big wheel."

You guys got snow?
Over here it's been a stinking 35 degrees Celsius in the shade lately with horrible humidity
My '55 Raleigh nearly got sunstroke last weekend, and the Brooks is a bit sunburnt after that hot Sunday family ride.

Last Saturday I walked 10 minutes to the local winery for George Thorogood and the Destroyers, followed by Joe Cocker

Life can be very good

and no snow in sight

Very pretty. Definitely not the local example.

Is that an original AW hub? I don't have any pre-1969 catalogs to know what the Superbe was running at the time. I know the '64s were a very interesting, two-tone example with green metallic Bluemels fenders; worked on one once. I've never seen one photographed online.

Yes, the hub says Sturmey Archer England AW 66 11 THREE SPEED.

A November hub date would almost certainly make it a 1967. The '69 Superbe in my photo shoot has a late 1968 rear hub, but a GH-6 that was built during the spring (don't remember the exact month) of 1969.

Nope; the '64 I saw had a black headtube and matching black accents behind the headlugs; identical to the white accents shown in that photo.

That Superbe in your photo is a '61, isn't it?

-Kurt

I believe it is, I didn't label the photo, it was one of about 180 that I took at the ABCE Tour in Minneapolis September 2009. The guy didn't ride it on the tour, but had it at the show and tell on Sunday. It looked brand new, no scratches, no wear marks, nothing. It was a garage find and IIRC he also has the matching step through version.
