threaded headset recommndations

im thinking of replacing the threaded heaset on my 87 bianchi sport sx. The current setup is a low end tange set. Nothing fancy (since the bike was lower end in its day).

I have used the shimano 600 sealed cartridge threaded headset in other bikes and have had good luck with them. THey feel good, tight and nice and smooth.

Does anyone else have any other options or opinions on a threaded headet upgrade? Just curious what others use or are happy with and recommend.

Is the current headset bad, if not why replace it? If there is no indexing, and it moves smoothly, I would just clean, and repack the bearings.

+1 unless it's damaged a good clean/re-grease can make a huge difference.

nope..nothing wrong with the current one other than age and maybe a bit of wear. No indexing yet. I just figured on upgrading to somthing a little better quality is all.

Then spend the money on something else that the bike really needs, and if it needs nothing send me the money LOL.
