downtube shifters not brazed on.. do i still need cable stops? (brifter conversion)

Hello guys i have a quick question in converting to brifters.

i took apart the downtube shifters, and i noticed that it was not brazed on, the shifters were attached to the band.

do i still buy cable stops, and attach them to the band? or is there another way of doing this?

not sure what you mean by "band"... https://cgi.ebay.com/Cable-stop-clamp...item1c18e3362d

Is that what you meant? In that case, yes.

Not sure about the modern stops on a downtube clamp but I doubt it since everyone seemed to go nuts with proprietary designs. The easiest route will probably be a clamp-on double housing stop as found on just about every '70s bike with stem shifters but you'll lose the adjustability of modern stops.

Hey, sorry for the shameless plug but I'm the guy on ebay selling these clamps linked in the post from TMP. I couldn't find any that would work for me, so I bought these Huret Clamps and first modified them to work with my Shimano STI Cable Stop adjusters. A few people also wanted one to work with downtube shifters so I machined the flats on and changed the threads to work with 'modern' (post 1972) shifters. Please drop me a note with any questions or search my ebay store for more info on these Lava-cycles.

If this posting is inappropriate, let me know and I'll delete it. I just know that when I needed these for my vintage Trek I couldn't find them and I would have been happy to find a posting on the bike forums with a solution.
