sorry huffy
on my block they wern't as cool as a schwin, but still it's sad to see huffy go http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...esforchapter11 :(
|
Sorry, I disagree. The term, "good riddance," comes to mind. Schwinns, though heavy, were much better made and finished. I briefly owned a Huffy-made Sears Free Spirit, a $20 yard sale special, and was not terribly upset when it was stolen.

My wife got me a Huffy mountain bike.. it was a better quality one than you can find at Xmart (walmart, kmart, etc)... when I told her I wanted to get back into biking after about 5 years after I gave up on it when my bike got stolen.
Bless my wife's heart for the thought and effort... but MAN, Huffy's SUCK! :( Sorry Huffy. Thankfully I later (a few years later) got a Specialized Hardrock. My wife thinks I'm weird getting that when I already have a "nice huffy" lol. Ahh oh well. hehe Some people don't understand :) |
I bought a 24 year old Huffy today from someone at work. I has been sitting for 17 years in his garage. It works well but needs a good cleaning.
It's a 10 speed Santa Fe with a nice Southwestern paint scheme |
I bet old Huffys are better than todays Huffy's They didnt have all the light weigh junk back then to cut corners with.
|
I blame Huffy for part of the reason people DON'T ride bicycles more. Consumers for years have been brainwashed into thinking that department store junk is considered normal and have balked at three and four hundred dollar entry-level bikes when they spend 30+ thousand dollars for an SUV without blinking an eye.
I've made it my lot in life to educate people about getting off the hose and spending a little more to get a bike with ten times the quality so they might enjoy cycling for a change. Since the bike boom of the '70s (and even the days of the high-wheelers, from what I've heard), junky crap was dumped on an unsuspecting public and they just put them up in thier garage and took up running or whatever. |
I'll admit I've seen plenty of sorry Huffys, but before we dismiss them all, take a gander at Saturnsc2's little gem:

That's a beauty! We have a really nice Huffy where I work that is the sweetest bike I ever rode.
