Lejeune Pro: An experiment in presentation.
 

Looking for a better way to share my bikes. This will also help document the bike for insurance purposes. It's rather crude IMO, but it's a start.

Very good presentation of a great looking bike. Some great mods done to it as well. I think the matching bar tape looks great on there. Some folks here don't like the tape to match the bike, but after seeing your bike, I will be trying it out on one of mine.

Here are some shots of a bike I just put together for my daughter. It is her third Lejeune. I put a few miles on it before I gave it to her. Like every Lejeune I've ever been fortunate enough to ride, it is a remarkably comfortable and responsive frame. She got it yesterday. After her first ride, she texted me that she loves it: that it has a lot of soul.

It is the only Lejeune CX frame I've ever seen. The paint & decals are original, though of the components, only the Campy NR head set and bottom bracket are original (or could have been).

That machine looks amazing, the gold and red work nicely together. Ive been collecting some gold pieces, maybe a worthy frame will come around some day, plus the many other gold parts I would eventually need!

Mike...you may recall over on CR list I thanked you for buying the CX Lejeune so I wouldn't. Then later admitted to not buying remorse. LOL

I was captivated by the LeJeune siren almost 4 decades ago, I did not buy it when I first saw one, as I did not have the $425. for a full Campagnolo bike, I had been saving $ for almost 3 years, and I wanted a bike, and I was not going to enter the Summer of 1972 without one. Two years later I did get one, and still ride it. Now I have 3 others... there does appear to be a trend with LeJeune owners... A note to you unfortunate folk without one.

Now, a comment. Way back a club teammate had a LeJeune pro track bike, his bike had the same geometry and sizing as my road bike, just track ends. Same BB drop, angles and all. And I have seen one CX bike long ago, and it had what appeared to be almost the same geometry for its size as a CdM road model... The frame that aixaix purchased was interesting to me as for its seat tube size I would have expected a longer top tube (if it did, I would have been very interested) based on the general rule way back that a CX frame should be smaller than one's road bike, for dismount and expected lower saddle height accepted at the time for cyclocross.

As to the CdM video, I liked the commentary more than the images, I think for a "one shot" no visible editing approach, the words were great. Upon seeing the images, I think a slideshow approach with still images that zoomed or panned as desired, lingered or changed in concert with the narrative would work better...I guess the old PBS Civil War documentary comes to mind... I am such a critic, and I cannot even recall the fellow who produced that. I would also have used maybe some of the reference material you probably have to show your inspiration and research. There is a lot of work I know behind a project like that one.

Of course I remember. Dd texted me this morning to gloat over how fast the bike is. For what its worth, the frame is in appreciative hands.

Repechage makes a good point about video vs stills. His suggestion to emulate Ken Burns by zooming in on a detail and, conversely, starting with a detail then pulling back is worth considering. It takes a little more set-up, but you don't need a steadicam, just a tripod. I too enjoyed the commentary a lot.

I will ask my daughter to compare the geometry of the three Lejeunes she owns. I think they are all the same seat tube length, which removes a big variable.

I'm sorry/grateful that the Lejeune tandem now for sale on Craigslist is in Fresno, 3000 miles from here. There would be something so right about having all four expressions of Lejeunity under the same roof, but really silly and compulsive at the same time!

Great to see functional Simplex components - I have never had the opportunity to ride a totally Simplex outfitted bicycle but I have talked to those who have and they all say "Tuto Balencia" - NICE...

The video was done in one shot. It was the second attempt, the first being aborted by an F/A-18 making a low pass over the house. It was unedited save for the captions inserted and the only reason those are there is I got away from my plan to indicate what would have been original equipment. Even so I still left out info I wanted to include. Might use a cue sheet next time as the memory is really short term at times. I actually considered the stills with heavy editing and rejected it. What I am looking to do is create the atmosphere of someone coming over and wanting to "get the dope" on the bike. I think the slide/stills method would have been overproduced. I do have some ideas for improvement which I am not going to share at the moment.

As for the tandem, the measurements do seem wrong. I did get standover for the captain and stoker (and larger photos). They are reportedly 31.5 and 29 "about half way between". With the sloping top tube, that would imply a bit lower right in front of the saddles. I am giving it serious consideration as these do not come around often and certainly not in this condition. Wheels would need to be replaced as I believe they should be 650B, which according to a friend who has a Lejeune tandem, should raise the pads about 14mm. The lack of a drum brake is almost scary, but in my two catalogs, none of the models have drums. Still not sure if I will bid. Lots of logistical questions should I get this or any tandem.
