I joined in 2005 after I got my very first real road bike. Didn't enter the C & V until late 2006 or early 2007 after finding an old Gitane Tour de Luxe in the trash.

Whatever happened to EastHill and Dr. Deltron and Lotek and Solveg? I don't know if Hipcycler posted here but he was a regular in the Roadie forum.

I have been here since 12-21-05, so Pastor Bob has me beat by a couple of months. While I am far from the most prolific poster, I still read here almost every day. It is a great group of folks and I have learned a great deal over the years.

That was me. If you hang around here long enough and pay attention you can get to be a pretty good mechanic.

Am I wrong or do many of the regulars pretty much only post here in C&V? Out of my 1200 contributions, only a dozen or so have been in other the forums.

Mine too. Most of my nonsense is kept here.

I joined a few years back when I first got back into cycling, but never posted. Recently I moved and lost my neighbour-friend who helped me with all my builds, got some cash from a couple of insurance payouts (cannondale crit & Fuji finest RIP) and have been on the lookout for vintage steel. I revived my account looking for help with my fixed Medici build and gravitated to C&V. Much more interesting than other forums. I found the fixed gear forum to be annoying, they didn't quite understand the concept of buying a bike that you've always wanted - people kept pushing eco-frames, when I was thinking Nagasawa. I've grown quite fond of the C&V crowd and have already made several parts acquisitions and learnt a lot!

I'll have to post to see when I joined, it can't have been very long ago. I came looking for some wheel or tire sizing info or other.
I remember asking how to find a better vintage bike and someone told me to just wait till one fell in my lap. Sure enough, my best friend had a Bridgestone hanging in his garage and gave it to me.
I love wrenching.

I used to post quite a bit in the Roadie forum; not so much now. I still visit it often, though. Same for the SS/FG forum. I've been to the Mechanics forum a few times and to some of the other forums. Training and Nutrition and the racing forum for pro cycling news.

While there are some people on the SS/FG forum with money, most of them seem to be students or the always-broke slackers looking for a ride on the cheap. And many of the ones with money bought track frames and ridiculously expensive components and ended up with very uncomfortable-looking rides. To each his own, I guess.

This is a wild guess, but I think you might be mixing me up with that stellar Canadian gentleman, randyjawa, who DOES have an excellent Web site. Although I did hitchhike through Thunder Bay in 1974 or so, I'm not him.
I don't think I've ever posted a single message on any of the other forums. Why bother?

I joined in 2006 and did most of my posting in commuting & C&V while working for my previous employer. Maybe that is why they are my previous employer.........

I drift away for a few months, or a year here and there, but I always come back to the C&V.

Funny it doesn't seem that long ago. Until I stumbled upon this thread, I never paid any attention to my join date. Sheesh, I've been here a long time!

I hang mostly around the touring area nowadays...a bit in commuting as well.

Dr. Deltron got banned for sending not so friendly PMs out to people. I did not receive one of the messages fortunately but I think Dr. Deltron told me about it. His work was brilliant but he seemed to have some anger.

I too came here when I was looking to get back into cycling and was appalled at what I had to pay at the LBS for an entry level ride, especially not knowing if my back would let me stay on a bike. After a few weeks Cuda told me he had a Centurion that was coming back from a previous sale if I was interested.

My game room is now over flowing, as is my garage. So, Cuda was hooked by Marty, Cuda got me hooked, so by proxie it's all Marty's fault.:p

The success and longevity of this forum has had much to do with the relatively high standards we have established here in the following areas:

Road forum = Not-So-Politically Correct Forum

C&V = The warm fuzzy carpet you always love to sink your feet into after a hard day.

I enjoy looking at C&V, SS/FG, Touring and the C&V "appraisal" forums mostly.

There is certainly a difference in personalities between the various forums, but that's probably a good thing. Lots of experts here and tons of information is shared, it's all good.

All very true, and I agree that it's what makes this forum so much fun.
But since you bring up the issue of language, Auchen, I must respectfully mention that on the recent "Stamped Dropouts" thread, you used "inferring" where I think you meant "implying."
Editors are a pain in the butt sometimes, but we see it as our job.

pastorbob, sure would be nice to hear from EastHill. Could you use your powers of persuasion to get her to pop in and say hello? If not, I understand. A lot of the qualities that have made C&V Forum special come from the spirit that people like Ms. EastHill brought here.
