Formula 1 would be a tubing designation for Bianchis Special tubing from Columbus. I think Nuovo Alloros came in this color in '85/'86/87 but I highly doubt it is a Specialisma. Actually the model name is still on the TT so that will tell you modela nd it tells me it is likely a '85 or 86

Just my excuse to get back on a steel frame.

Nothing really fancy. My Fall project:
This is how I got her, I haven't tweaked anything yet.

They are mid-level bikes based on my knowledge, but they'll be great for me and my girlfriend. Got them for what I feel was a very good price considering their amazing condition.

A bit of backstory: The bikes were sitting in the guys garage for the past 21 years, and they were in immaculate, amazing condition - except for a few scuffs on the top tubes from them being hung on unprotected metal hangers.

Columbus Cromor tubing on both.
The equipment on the larger bike is Shimano Exage brakes/400EX derailleurs, Ambrosio wheels, Shimano cranks/chainset.
The smaller bike has Shimano Exage brakes, Sport LX derailleurs, Fir wheels, Shimano Sport LX cranks and chainset.

Since they've been sitting the tires are all rotted - so I'm looking for some recommendations on replacements if anyone has suggestions.

Sorry for the terrible low-light pics, just wanted to get this in here for comments.
I'll get the bikes out in the sun in the next few days and edit the post with new photos....

So you got those 2!
I was wondering who snatched these 2 up in Langley right?

I managed to post a pic

I have owned it from new and nothing has changed except the rear wheel, white bar tape which fell off and the perished lever hoods which were brown.

I have just had Bianchi celeste bar tape put on and 2 new tyres.

I have searched the net and cannot find any Bianchis with white stickers or the unpainted fork?

I'll gather the information later as I am work today

Off the top off my head I know the brakes and levers are Weinmann and the wheels (well front one) is Ambrosia. The downtube shifters are Z range (can't remember number). The crank is SR.

It is a pretty big frame, I don't know how I rode it 20 odd years ago. I'm only 5ft 10 now and it fits ok LOL

You 'ass'ume correctly on the seat post. It is stuck in. I have read the thread on how to (try and) remove it. That's the next job!

I've already shared this once, but here's a quick cell phone pic of my (82?) Super Nuovo Racing after detailing, new tires, and tape.

A lovely Tawanese built Bianchi. I took the pic from the web, as I am a wretched photographer. Mine has the celeste saddle and handlebar, but otherwise is identical. A '91, I believe. Lugged, double butted chromoly.

One of my Bianchis

I've had some great Bianchi frames. Can anyone help me identify this one?

This is from Late '70's or early '80's. Some parts were indicative of the '70's: it had long dropouts and 120mm spacing, and brazed-on water bottle posts (so it used nuts instead of allen bolts). Yet it had brazed-on brake cable guides, downtube bosses indicative of the '80's. So that places it in a specific date range.

Tubeset was sort of low-end: It was "Columbus Zeta" and seemed like seamed tubing, since there was a very slight rust line visible straight down some of the tubes. It was a real oddball seatpost size: The bike came with a Campy aero post in something like 26.4.

Decal set was Black "Bianchi" logo but with "Piaggio - Vespa" head tube logo. Obviously during the short Piaggio ownership period.

Anyway, it was a low-end racing bike, not worth much. I converted it to Fixed-Gear with a Phil Wood hub and absolutely loved it. It rode fabulously. I ended up selling it for a few hundred bucks, and wish I had kept it.

Bianchi SLX with Campagnolo Athena

Here's another great Bianchi, my first one. I bought it off Craigslist for $300, but I was really interested in the pristine, full Campy 7s Athena groupset. For some reason all the decals had been removed (or never applied), but was otherwise in stock, nearly NOS condition. Didn't appear to be a repaint at all. It had Aero through-top-tube brake routing with cool inlets. Sloping fork crown with beautiful Bianchi eagle. When I took off the BB, I could feel SLX riflings at the bottom of the seat tube. It definitely wasn't one of the Reparto Corse TSX frames though.

Bianchi USA is based here in the SF Bay Area, so I always wondered if it was some kind of oddball import or test frame.

It was 56cm and should have been way too big for me, since I ride a 52-54c. I rode it around the block and was astonished, it felt like a glove, even with a longish stem. I later measured the angles vs my main ride, an '88 Guerciotti. The extra top tube length was mainly behind the BB, since it had more laid back angles, compared to the very aggressive Guerc. It also had a higher BB, so I really sat up high and the top tube was about 1" higher than my Guerc.

Fantastic bike. I kept it as my main bike for about a year, and really enjoyed it. I miss it. Unfortunately, I was tempted by an Eddy Merckx MX-Leader, for $400 on Craigslist, so I sold it. Unfortunately, the 56cm MX-Leader really was too big for me, and weighed a ton. It felt like I was driving a tank. Sigh.
