Old Hardrock build
 

I purchased an old Specialized Hardrock for $5 at a garage sale. Only issue is that is has a bent fork. It is a rigid front, chrome moly frame and says direct drive alot all over it. It has Altus components on it, cantilever brakes. The chain and components are kinda rusty and nasty looking. Other than the fork, the frame looks straight as an arrow, and the wheels are straight. My first problem is that I cannot find a fork to replace it. It is a tall frame, and the fork that I need is 1" threaded 190-200mm long with 1.25" of the post threaded. I tried nashbar, ebay, no luck. Any ideas where to find a fork. It doesn't have to be a mtb fork, a cyclocross or touring might do. I would like to upgrade to 700 rims or some skinnies,( unknown if it is freewheel or cassette), bullhorn bar to get in shape and hopefully do my first century charity ride. What would be some inexpensive used components to swap to, also? I would hate to see this chrome moly frame go to waste, or should I just ditch the plan and just try to find a late '80, early '90's road bike and call it a day? If this would fit better in the hybrid section, mods feel free to move it. Thanks for your help.

Nashbar used to sell a chromed 1" threaded mtb fork many moons ago. Bought one to repair a bike. Try searching under Spinner, Tange, Kinesis. These 3 companies supply OEM forks. You might get lucky.
If you mount a 700C hybrid fork, verify tire clearance. If it's good, you'll have a "69er". 26" rear, '29'-inch front mtb.
