Maino Bike ?

Hey any one heard of a bike company with the name Maino? I have a single speed frame and can't seem to find any information on it. It has a badge that says Maino and the number 21 stamped on the frame. Thanks .

Maino is an Italian company.

I have run across two Maino bicycles, one an near mint entry level road bike offering, that I passed on. The other, also a road bike but now a frame set, that was once fitted with Campy Gran Sport components, hangs in The Old Shed to this day. I think the frame is a 56cm but not sure. I should dig it out and see what I can do with it.

Sorry no pictures - yet.

Long gone Company?

Yes please send me pics if you post them. I seriously have found nothing except some photos people have posted but no information about the company itself. The Maino Bike company must have be gone long ago because no one seems to know the years they were around or any thing about them other than it was in Italy. Thanks though.

Maino is, or rather was, an old company. I read somewhere they started in 1896 in Alessandria, Italy. Later, I think they were bought by Atala. I don't know in which year he won the World Championship (1931? 1932?), but the great Costante Girardengo rode a Maino. I think Learco Guerra did as well. The ones I've seen are all battleship gray. Their fork crowns are distinctive: 3 plates. It figures prominently into their company logo. One of the most lust-worthy racing bikes I've seen is a Maino from the 1930's in what appears to be original condition. What I wouldn't give to have that bike!

Best I have at the moment. Will take more once I clean the old bike up. 27.2 seat post dia. Tubing has a nice ring to it. I have no idea about vintage, but it might be a Grand Prix model.

Fausto Coppi's first racing bike was a grey Maino.
Old Mainos are beautiful handcrafted bikes, even gentlemen's bikes are fine; I had one from the '30ies some years ago, but Maino as a company is dead from a long time. It's actually just a brand that belongs to Atala, as well as other old italian brands.
