roughly 12.5" would be the distance from the axle to the fat part of a hetre mounted on a 650b rim, which is why i think he just forgot to divide by 2.

Sell a bunch of un-needed stuff @ T-Town and get a frame that will work for you. It will make the process so much less painful in the long run......

You do have a couple options that could work if you still wanted to convert it. The Tektro 984 has 70-88mm of reach and the Odyssey 1999 has 74-95mm of reach. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/b...ers.html#70-88. The Diacompe 750 is another option. Harris says the reach goes out to 75mm while Longleaf says 78mm. Maybe it would be close, but it's also a recessed mounted brake.

I've got a Sekine SHT that I'm planning on converting to 650b and it already has plenty of clearance with 27x1.25 tires. It has ample room for the Hetres but I would need 78mm of brake reach in the front and 91mm in the back. I may end up doing it as a 650b fixed gear with a front brake. In that case I'd most likely go with the Tektro 984 with the black removed.

Edit: there's also the Tektro C326 with 79-99mm reach and Weinmann 820 (82mm) and 1080 (108mm, so I've read) sidepulls.

I have converted several Fuji's and all have worked. They seem to have higher than average BB's. I even converted a Club Fuji to 26" and the BB height was still 260mm with 26x1.50 Compass tires. The Hetres would not fit in back on the Club, the 2010 Newest, or the old Royale. I have a 2000 Newest frame they will fit. It just hasn't been built yet. I really like the Col De La Vies better than the Soma B Lines or Nifty Swiftys. Looking forward to the Hetres. The CDLV's are so inexpensive and I have never experienced the "squirminess" others have.

Funny that this thread gets bumped today. I have been considering doing exactly the same thing.

As for -holiday76's bike, he never did that conversion; he subsequently left the Finest with a friend (me) for storage while he's living on the west coast for a couple years. I can ride it, but it is a little big for me.

But in the mean time I bought a rust bouquet Fuji the Finest frame, somewhat smaller, on eBay last week ($48, what could possibly go wrong?) and am considering the 650b option on that.

The fact that I already promised him I wouldn't means I already considered doing just that! But I don't need to. I already have almost everything I need . Noah Scape contributed a crank, Whatwolf is sending chain rings, TimmyT is supplying cable stops, and I don't remember what else.

So did you ever do a 650b on your Fuji Finest at $48? I just picked up a complete 1972 Fuji Finest which is complete with a few rust issues and a stuck stem, :crash:, as well as a bunch of other parts.

I'm thinking of a 650b conversion but this bike can take a 32c tire no problem (and frankly it can take a 38c as well at least with center pulls). So maybe better to stick to 700c?

Right! And the Trek 720 rides fine with 32's, especially when heavily loaded.
