Falcon San Remo

I've been thinking all winter about building up a bike in the tradition of a British path racer. Needless to say, the term "path racer" tends to conjure up a fairly diverse range of images, and perhaps "club racer" might be a better (if not equally vague!) description of what I've got in mind. Anyway, I arrived home this afternoon to find a box from C&V forum member nlerner (Thank you, Neal, and thank you FedEx!) I've just finished unpacking a ca. 1960's Falcon San Remo frame and fork, along with a couple of other items. With the Shogun on the road now, and almost completed (still a lighting issue to get resolved) I am ready to turn my attention to a new challenge.

Interestingly, it appears that much of the frame - if not all - is chromed under the paint. And those chrome lugs ...well! I'm just a sucker for them.

I love the blind embossing in the decal! And what a cool head badge

Dunno, but I'm happy he had this kit!

Just realized I'll need to update my signature line again.

Enjoy the Falcon, Mark! It was a lively fun rider (set up as a single speed with flat bars), but I have just too many bikes and hadn't ridden the Falcon much at all in the last year. BTW, I originally thought that San Remo was the model of this Falcon, but evidently there were many levels of Falcon San Remo. I've never seen catalogs from the era that this frame is from, but Robert Broderick hosts a bunch of 70s catalogs:

I was actually on those pages when you sent this message! I've found several other resources - one thing that may or may not mean anything (given the limited information I'm starting with, of course), is that the only reference I can find listing bronze and gold as available colors dates to 1962. I'm not sure I'm ready to call this one an early 60's model, but as it always is with these things, it's kind of intriguing. I'll update this thread as the build progresses, and as I uncover more information about the bike.

Wow, looks nice! Is that a lamp bracket on the fork?

Oh, here's mine, pretty much as found except cleanup and paint. Was originally a medium metallic blue. No idea of model. CyclArt paint.

Thanks. I only ask because I have a couple like that, but never seem to find the brackets required to fit one...

I'll post a photo of the bracket later today if that will help.

Man that Falcon gets around!

I believe that I bid against Neal on Evil-bay on that frame a couple years ago!

I think this is what you're talking about. It seems like it would be pretty easy to fabricate this piece - and, of course, I'm making the dangerous assumption that all light brackets are similar (which, of course, they decidedly are not!) Still...

The lamp bracket appears to be on the American side, too! I've only ever seen them on the right side on English bikes.
