Classic Azuki Bicycle ( pics inside)

Apologize ahead of time if this is the wrong place for this.

However, I recently picked up a classic yellow Azuki bike, and would like to know a little more about it. Thanks in advance.

Your bicycle is entry level Japanese, best guess. You can get a pretty good idea of its approximate vintage by visiting this page on dating bicycle components. Study your components and compare to the information offered there.

Though not sure if you are new to the interest in vintage bicycle or not, but allow me to invite you to visit MY "TEN SPEEDS", a website aimed at helping people understand how to find, street restore and enjoy owning an old bicycle.

Hope this is a help.

That was my first roadbike, new in '75 I think. Rode that bike half way across Baltimore County one summer day to see a girl I had a crush on. Mine was blue and weighed a ton. Your Azuki is a basic bike boom era ride, low end but well built, enjoy it for what it is.

Your Azuki would be comparable to a Nishiki Olympic of the same era.

Found this thread through a google search on yellow azuki road bike. That's the same model I rode in college. Upgraded it with a Brooks saddle (B-17 IIRC) and leather tape. Sadly, it was stolen from a parking area in the mid-80's.

My first road bike was also a yellow Azuki, bought in Norman, OK 1972. It was stolen while locked to a rack outside the chem building one evening. I bought another identical. For six years it was my sole transport and I still have it and ride it. Unlike yours, my decals vanished many years ago and I've repainted it twice - still canary yellow. Have replaced saddle, all of the bearings, spokes, cables, freewheel, chain - some numerous times - but the rims, hubs, derailleurs, shift levers, center-pull calipers, crankset, cable guides are all original. I still ride it about 20 miles a day at least 3 days a week in good weather. Lost track of mileage after 40k a long time ago. It was great to see your photos. My decals wore off so long ago I had completely forgotten what the lettering looked like.

Azuki bike

I have the woman's version of this bike and my ex husband had the exact bike you have. I still have my bike and I got it in 1974. I need new tires for it because they have rotted over the years from not being used.
