Campagnolo Super Record rear derailleur sells for $327.89?
Anyone know about this patent-less specimen?
Campagnolo Super Record Rear Derailleur. Beautiful!

Campagnolo Super Record Rear Derailleur. Beautiful!
Here's a beautiful Campagnolo Super Record Rear derailleur. This was mounted on a bike that was ridden very little and garaged for years. The pictures speak for themselves.
Worldwide shipping is 15.00.
Good luck!

I've been asked a couple times about the patent number and could not find one on the derailleur.

Okay, mine (early 1980s Campy SR) has a lot of miles on it (translates to "broken-in" in Campy-speak) but looks just as good. If I could get over $300 for it, I'd seriously consider pulling it off my Ciocc and replacing it with more modern technology.
Key word here is "consider" . . .

Looks like a simple pissing war between two bidders and not a true reflection of value? I'm not sure about the "no patent" detail. I know the very late Nuovo Record rear ders were blank, so maybe the same for SR as well?

i have one that doesn't have a pat number on it. its in similar condition to the one that sold on ebay. i think it was just a fluke ebay sale - but maybe rare? mine came off a olmo that i believe to be from around 1985 (didn't nail the date down 100%). i kind of thought that maybe the SR RDs w/o dates could be the last models made? just speculation.

My brother told me I could have his '85 Peugeot which had a Super Record drivetrain. Told my mom I was coming to get the bike. She then tells me she sold the bike at a garage for $50. Every time I see one of those derailleurs I think about that bike.

Though no expert I believe that 1984 was the last year that the SR rear derailleur had a pat date stamped into it. The non-marked ones are less valuable, as nearly as I can tell.

Shows how silly some ebay buyers can be. I bought a lovely PAT79 SR rear for $72, and it came with shift levers! That was two weeks ago, on eBay.

Amusing stuff happens on ebay, Could just be that two individuals placed what they thought would be winning bids and... zoom.
There was an early '75 NOS, NIB that was on offer for $300. may still be.
My guess is the later units are rising in price due to the minor geometry changes that allow use with 7-8 speed freewheels and just a bit more capacity. You're getting older, more gears are desired, but one wants to keep that Campagnolo pre index classic look...

Amazing what folks will pay for something after chugging back the Italian Kool Aid...
There should be a 12 step group or something.

Have seen the rear d on my '57 Peugeot sell for more than $1200.00 in NOS shape and go for almost $800.00 in used condition... despite the pull chain design of my JUY543 it outperforms any Campy derailleur from that era and you would think it was indexed in how well it shifts.
The Campy from that era was admittedly tougher and could take a lot more abuse and this is part of how they built such a good reputation... when all that is left but Celine Dionne CD's and cockroaches there will also be Campagnolo Nuovo Record derailleurs.

But the vintage French stuff is worth it...

I haven't used your derailleir, so have no first hand knowledge of it, but my Campy stuff shifts plenty well for me. The one French part I do have, a Huret ti Duopar, covers more range than the Campy stuff but doesn't shift notably better.

Hmm, I've always prefered the look of NR. Never kept any of the SR that passed through my hands...

It uses a double cable and a helicoil and is low normal and can be adjusted for 3, 4, and 5 speed blocks (I run a 4 speed Simplex with mine)... I always think that a derailleur like this should not work as well as it does because of it's much older design.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Mostly Mischief
These later SR derailleurs also didn't have the option to replace the parallelogram spring with the simple unscrewing of a bolt. Instead the spring was reversed and fitted on one of the riveted pins holding the whole thing together. Clearly an inferior design from a C&V maintenance standpoint, but probably easier for the underpaid Campy laborer to put together.
Shown here with the NR body, where both curiously enough are marked pat.84:

I also prefer the looks of the NR over the SR. Frankly, the SR just looks too plain...........but then every big TDF superstar had used them on their pro bikes and in the oter biggest pro races. 99% of the time when you look at a period racing poster of a famous racer in the 80's he will have an SR RD, along with all his other teamates. I think that is where most of the popularity of the SR RD really comes from.
I could have bought an SR RD and FD many times through the years, but I just can't see why I really have to........I guess it's kinda like how I feel about Brooks saddles......
$300+ bucks for a no-patent-date SR RD??? That's insane and most likely just something that people will bid for to just display in a cabinet and never install on a bike.....

I realize 50th Anniversary is similar, but the polished combination would have looked fantastic.

Sheesh - I wish I could text the other idiot and offer him my pat 81 SR for 150!
I could still buy 2 or 3 more at that price.
