Crazy bike race

Perhaps you've all seen this, but a friend just sent me this link to a video of a bike race in Chile.

Enjoy, if you haven't seen it.

I'm glad I'm too damned old to even try stuff like that. My hat's off to anyone who can! Amazing.

habes78023 03-23-11 10:55 PM

whoa..

vincev 03-23-11 11:00 PM

wow!

rivas7200 03-23-11 11:20 PM

Wow that is amazing and looks like a lot of fun.

DRietz 03-23-11 11:25 PM

Urban downhill racing is really fun. I did a race once on my fully rigid single speed 29er. The bike is gone, but the memories will last forever. Serious fun.

What was that UCI guy talking about at the end?

Insane. I like the part where the rider is giggling at the middle of the ride from the adrenaline.

rat fink 03-24-11 12:15 AM

I like the suit.

gaucho777 03-24-11 12:45 AM

Whoa. That was awesome. The jumps were insane, especially the final jump at 3:00 having to keep speed through the narrow glass doorway.

He was talking about the rider's outfit. If you look at his arms & legs while signing the autograph, the rider is wearing a pinstripe suit!

KonAaron Snake 03-24-11 12:47 AM

I can only assume it's either Charlie Sheen or Emilio Estevez as the rider definitely has tiger blood.

gaucho777 03-24-11 12:55 AM

^He was obviously WINNING!

pastorbobnlnh 03-24-11 04:22 AM

Incredible--- and hard to watch first thing in the morning with the first cup of coffee not finished. A couple of times I felt myself succumbing to motion sickness!

:andrew 03-24-11 10:00 AM

Oh man I thought he was about to hit that dog!

canyoneagle 03-24-11 10:12 AM

Holy crap that was insane!
I could feel the stirring in the pit of my stomach and the adrenaline - especially on the jumps and during the narrow sections where it would have been really easy to snag the handlebars.

I'm sure my co-workers were wondering what the occasional gasps were all about.

Yeah - the suit was a nice touch. :)

+1
At 44 (45 is just around the corner) I value my bones and joints just as they are.
I've survived enough "wahhoooooo" moments of pure adrenaline in the midst of some really stupid circumstances (i.e. potentially thrilling or resulting serious injury) to relate to the pure thrill that these guys must be experiencing.
But I cringe to think about what it would feel like to mess up.

snarkypup 03-24-11 10:49 AM

It does make me feel my own timidity, I suppose, but also my own health :).

steppinthefunk 03-24-11 10:52 AM

How in the world were they able to make this a legitimate-organized race! They even had sponsors for this thing. CRAZY!

jamesj 03-24-11 11:40 AM

i watched this earlier this week and it totally made me have motion sickness....

#1: This is not being done in the USA. I'm willing to be that the Chilean legal system doesn't allow this to become slavering time for the personal injury lawyers.

Puget Pounder 03-24-11 12:00 PM

do you think they released the dog as an obstacle?
